What options are there for power, water and gas down there?

The only one I know of is ACTEWAGL..

I need to start getting things organised.

Also what form of PayTV is down there (not including TransACT as my street is not cabled)?

Any help would be appreciated. :innocent:

Foxtel Sat for payTV, ACTEW AGL are the only canberra electricity, water, gas providers (although I think great southern electricity or whatever are more/only commercial).

Depending on where you're moving in, ADSL can be an option. If your cabling is under ground, you may be lucky aswell. Telstra are fixing (is there such a thing) these issues as we speek, adding minimux's everywhere.

I am not from Canberra, but I know Country Energy supply services to the ACT (used to be called Great Southern) as I used to support their network.

Has power been de-regulated in all of Australia? If it has, then you can get your power from anyone at all, just shop for the best deal.

The best advice for someone moving to the ACT? Dont! Canberra sucks! One of the hottest towns when it is summer, one of the coldest towns when it is winter. The strangest climate I have ever heard of........

The only good thing about the ACT is its locality. It is only 1 and a half hours to the bay, and 2 and a half hours to sydney.

Canberra is that boring, me and Ross are driving to Tumut tomorrow for something to do!!!! (no offence rob!)

Canberra isn't THAT bad. I like the climate. It's almost exactly like where my parent's came from, on the adriatic coast of Croatia ;) Especially great in the winter for making prusut (known as prushuto to most).

Come on Mick...Canberra is not bad at all.

The climate is fine...Hot but no humidity, and great in winter whenb there is no wind....:-)

As for driving to Tumut for Fun...well..."say no more"

Asfor Foxtel Pay TV, Cro, you will find the satelite picture quality far better than Fox cable used in most capital cities as it is a digital service.

Keep in mind that Foxtel will also be revamping their services towards March with many more channels and a fully end to end digital delivery for all subscribers.

I have foxtel, and they are wankers. In early October, HRT (Hrvatska Radio Televizija aka Croatian Radio Television) started providing a free sat stream for 4 locations around the world. Europe, North America, South Amirica and Australia & New Zealand. For Australia they use the same sat as Foxtel (Optus C1). We were able to setup the Public Buoquet so that we can watch this by pressing the TV button on the foxtel remotes and choosing the public bouquet or the Foztel one. The only thing foxtel is improved, is to change the sat boxes abilities. They made the boxes unable to have more than 1 tune setting, therefore stopping the use of the public bouquet. That's their only "improvement". Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy my own sat box for the Public bouquets, and just piggy back off the foxtel sat dish. That is ofcourse if foxtel decide/have made this impossible by not allowing a passthrough on their box :(

Oh and the March improvement is an increase in price.

Almost forgot. the Sat is digital, has always been. The foxtel streams are mpeg 2 you know.
