Trouble At Ford

Should this be the right time to be ordering a Ford ? . With all the spare parts problems, and staff being laid off, maybe I should hold off ordering my new car until the dusk settles ? .

Man are they painful. I dropped my car off at 730 and was told it wouldnt be ready until 12pm just to change the gearknob!!! Now that I have it back, my gearknob sits about 30mm higher than it did before?

Ford Australia spokesperson stated due to the recent failure of parts co Autodom, it would have sufficient parts for 2 days and is expecting to rooster two further days , what happens after that is not known? .

Ford have stated it may be forced to temporarily shut down production until it is able to secure a replacement supplier

Hence, given the current climate , I posed the question and my concern

Mattyb, your talking about a dealership. The question was about the factory.

I can tell your the quality and attention to detail has not changed in making these cars even given the current climate. I personally would have no hesitation buying one right now. I can say this first hand!

Go for it. Ford's attention to detail, and durability is one of the reasons this company continues to be a leading mass producer of cars. Ford Australia pride themselves on the fact that they make a better engineered, and more durable car than Holden. If you don;t believe it, just ask a taxi driver, even if their driving a Prius or Camry hybrid.

When I got to melb the other week the cabbie spent 20min complaining about his POS caprice and wishing ford still made a fairlane

I cant agree with what has been said about build quality and attention to detail. Issues with my car since new and not related to my mods:

Diff clunk

Suspension squeak

Rattling in drivers side window

Wiper jets not shooting water

Gapping in left hand side of the car very different to right

Power steering leak

Various small spots of rust in paint work

Radio has poor reception

iPhone connector not working

I'm sure there is more but can't think of it atm. Now I know all of this could have been covered under warranty (FG series 1ute) but to be honest with how hard most people have trying to get things sorted I'm really not up for the sh*t fight over what aren't major issues.

Last car I owned was a VE SS ute. 2 issues, paint in the rear bar needed to be redone and the clutch trigger to start the car stopped working. From my own experience the VE was a much better built car. The Ford does feel like a taxi when I drive it these days which is a bit upsetting as I still love it to bits. Goes hard, sounds wicked, looks sh*t hot and I've had it since new.

So once again I can't agree with anyone that says Ford built quality matches up as my BA was very much the same.

If you are comparing VE's to BF-FG, there is no contest.

We have had VE's here at work, and BF/FG's, and the Fords seem to cope with the kilometres better. The VE's really struggle with interiors, electrical, and oil consumption. The BF had a few diff issues, (probablydiffbush) but that's about it.

Our work Territory has 84,000 on it, and still goes well.
