Need Help Identifying A Noise

I recently changed my rods to spool rods without changing anything else except the head gasket.

I had been running the T at about 15psi for about a month after the change and then I started adjusting it up a little and peaked at about 20psi before dropping it back down a little.

It was only after hitting the high boost I noticed a ticking/light knocking kind of noise at idle, but only after the engine is fully warmed up.

Every time I have asked someone to have a listen it isn't there.

It happens more on a long drive when stopping at the lights etc.

I thought it may be a gudgeon pin in a rod as one was slightly loose, but not excessively.

I checked the flex plate on a car hoist and it seems tight and the noise isn't getting any worse.

It's more of a noise noticeable inside than with the hood up and it doesn't happen all the time.

No, I don't have an oil pressure gauge.

I use Total, Quarts 9000, 10w50 fully synthetic oil.

I did switch cams while it was apart.

I stripped the oil pump too and there was no cracking at the time.

The spool kits are normally noisy. Doesn't mean nothing is wrong if the noise is excessive. Normally you wouldn't just throw rods into a block without machining parts as the clearances must be spot on.

Have you tried a stethoscope or the old screw driver?

This the one u reused head bolts in? Lol, make sure purge solenoid isnt touching the strut tower

Haha, I hate I told you so's I think I may have lifted the head momentarily at 20psi but I turned the boost back down and it seems to be holding fluids. Have not topped up since I did the work.

Thanks, I will get a stethoscope today off a friend and check the purge solenoid also.

By the way bionicxr6t05 I had that red light for air bags flashing and I did what you said and unplugged the yellow plug by the drivers seat runner and plugged it back in. All fixed Legend.

Now my battery light comes on occasionally. Any tips? Battery tested ok.

Check your alternator, engine earth strap and alternator wiring etc, also a low idle can bring charge light on intermittenty, and loose terminals etc

Got that noise sorted out. You'll never guess what it was. The purge solenoid was touching the strut tower. Who'd have thought?
