Valve Stem Seals

Hi guys,

I am getting my Valve Springs replaced and talked to the mechanic today.

I am buying the Valve Springs and he is fitting. He says that I have to replace the valve stem seals also.

When I get the valve springs from a supplier what do you get? Do I use the stock retainers. Do I need to buy valve stem seals separately etc. ?? He also said that the rubber ones are no good?

You can buy Crow Valve Springs with the retainers. Not sure about stem seals.

Ford include Stem Seals as part of the upper engine gasket kit. Not sure if they can be bought separately.

Ohh, and whether you need to replace the Stem Seals depends on the age and mileage of your car. It is not a prerequisite for fitting new springs, but if more than a couple of years old, definitely worth doing.

Got the springs today from Performance Springs - QLD.

Can get the retainers for more money but are not needed - can use stock retainers.

The stem seals are not compulsory but the mechanic likes to do them if the engine is a bit older when he does valve springs.

I have done some research they are not easy to get as separate.

The mechanic can get some for $210 - might have to go with that.

I replaced my Valve springs and left everything else standard. Motor is about to click over 280,000km. Try Burson's for valve stem seals if you really need them. I bought some for my RB26 yesterday for $150 but that was trade price.
