You could wait for Fords build quality to shine through.....and the scapel will fall off itself. Mine did. Then bounced off the service managers head !! :)

You can peel the plastic off the edge of the mirror on the very outer edge. You can do this by hand. See pic and the edge slightly exposed

Then you can slip a ruler inbetween the plastic cover and mirror and slowly bring the edge over the mirror. I exposed about 50% of the mirror edge on the outer edge and the mirror came out easily

Now you can see the mirror out and what the back looks like. You need to take the mirror part off only to access holes in the plastic backing so that 3 screws can be removed to remove the motor and plastic mirror backing out in one piece. Remember I stuffed up and broke the plastic backing off thinking the mirror and plastic backing is one part number. Its not.

You can see a line on the back of the plastic backing running vertically where the date is. This is put there to give some flexibility to the plastc so it can be bent a little backwards to get the mirror out.

I soldered the new sensor on with heat shrink (yet to be shrunk). Only way to do it. I wouldnt trust the crimp connectors they provide. The temp reads fine now

To do the job you really need a ruler, T20 torx bit, T10 Torx bit , soldering stuff.

I found out that I can get a new plastic backing plate that I damaged on its own. Part number BG17L677B. Hopefully shouldnt be much. My memory motor is OK but if it wasnt then I would be up for a complete new rear vision assembly at $400

How far out was the temp for you guys? Mine was initially out by about 8 degree's or so and after they replaced it it is still out by about 4 degree's (Pretty much consistently 4 out from 0 degrees all the way through to 40). Kinda annoys me because the one in my old BA Fairmont was spot on........oh what a great deal of progress that 8 years made :negative:

I got to update this and show the proper way to take the mirror off. Basically the way Bionic said in the beginning but as they say, a picture says a million words.

See where the X is in silver pen. There is a slot there where you can stick a big 1cm wide screwdriver.

post-822-0-90356600-1341842642_thumb.jpg

Put screwdriver in slot and turn 90deg. It will unclip one side of the mirror. THis is where you have to get a bit rough. It does not come off easy but I had to give it a little yank and it unclipped itself.
