I am thinking of adding this? the original snorkel had to be removed bc of hot+cold side piping upgrade

Yeah but when you can get one that's gonna do the same thing for a fraction of the price, its not a smart move..

Not necessary. A reflective duct would give better results anyway. Because the air travelling through it is cool/cold hopefully. Due to its location, and having cool air flowing through it the radiant/thermal heat waves will be attracted. By being reflective it allows for the heat waves to bounce off "so to speak" and therefore, is more resistant to heat conduction. Cheers

my main concern is if the cheaper ones 'collapse'. is that a possibility ?

Doubt it, wouldn't be enough pressure. If it was attached directly to the front of the turbo however then yes.
