Thermo Fan/engine Temp Issue

Hey all,

I have had my BF xr6t for a while now and it's been tuned to 368rwkw for a week now and I haven't had my thermo fan come on since maybe once or twice on the hottest days in December/January.

But today I bought some 19" wheels and changed them over in the driveway and took it for a test drive around the block giving it a squirt or too and by the time I got back my engine temp was on half (maybe a smidgen under) and the thermo fans were going off their nut for another 3-5mins idling in driveway. This was late afternoon with coolish weather I thought.

I was really suprised because I have not seen my eng temp even close to half for a few months now!

Coolant is correct levels, nothing restricting air intake at intercooler or air box etc..

One thing that I have been unable to get rid off is a gurgling in the main short coolant hose going from radiator to water pump I think it is...When I turn the car off that hose gurgles and the see thru coolant tank is definately moving with air rushing into it or from it...

BUT this has been going on for months now and engine temp levels have been keeping fan from coming on.

Ideas why engine temp would be un ordinary out of no where??

jacked the front of the car up and started it causing an airlock in the cooling system? or something along those lines maybe, im not sure just throwing ideas at you

never even thought of that mate, thanks for that idea! Was the only time Ive jacked it up, so if it's possible that this can happen well I think that's what it would be..

With this airlock, can u start the car with the coolant cap removed and run it until operating temp to remove the airlock?? Or does it require more than this?

That's it mate, they have a self air bleed system. Don't forget to crank the heater on full.

Update - This was a collapsed 2 month old cat. Incase anyone else has angry thermo fans out of the blue

speaking of the more u know (which I'm sure u do),

My exhaust shop are replacing this hi flow cat for me next week, but do you think if they use a different brand or something that it will mess my tune up and make it run like a bucket again? Or as long as they use any 200cpi cat again I'll be right?

I can't get a good run with this damn car lol

As long as the cat was flowing well at the time of the tune and there were no problems then getting the same flow cat but different brand will be fine.

Exhaust shop has agreed to replace cat free of charge this week

Hopefully there is nothing too suss inside the cat to lead them to the fact my emissions dash light was on for a few days last month)

(Car was retuned and dash light removed a couple weeks ago luckily..) I won't be mentioning this
