hey guys,

I'm in the final stages of ordering my T and was considering the premium brake package.....the option list is getting quite expensive so I was wondering everyones thoughts on them and the standard brake package.

I know a few of you have had problems with the standard brakes fading in driving with prolonged, repeated heavy braking and even some of you have had warped discs at 5000km...so anyway the question is wheather the Premium brakes are worth the extra 3000 dolllars?? or will the standard brake package do almost as well??

thanx,

Dave.

I think a similar discussion has been had before but in my opinion, unless you are racing or excessively heavy on your brakes, the premiums aren't required. If you're fairly sedate, then maybe the decision will have to come down to whether you just feel more comfortable having the larger brakes (and paying the 3G's for them).

It's easy for the options to add up quickly.

yeah I think your right.....I was going to skimp on other things like alarm, tint, mud spats, etc to get thems......

I think I've got like 8 or 9 grands of options now, NOT including the brakes....

I have the Premium brakes. I used fairly hard at 110kph and it is excellent. There is a huge difference to the standard brakes. You will notice it driving hard down a curvey mountain road and you dont have to be a race driver to enjoy that.

My suggestion is "Go for it". I think that is the best option.

My AUXR8 had the premium breaks, which I believe are the standard breaks on the BA (However they are not slotted on the BA, so this may not be the case) Anyway the breaks are fine. I had my AUXR8 at Eastern Creek for a drive day and the breaks were perfect.

If you remove the dust shields the breaks keep cooler, and do not wear as fast, but you will notice more break dust. I hope this helps

Dont forget, premium brakes need 18" wheels. So you need to option the 18's as well as a spare 18".

Also don't forget the cost of tyres on 18" wheels.

Looking at the specs on your car, it appears that you have every major option aside from SAT NAV totalling over 10 grands worth. Don't get me wrong, I wish I could have optioned up to the point you have but some of us (me!) had to draw a line somewhere. No doubt the premiums offer greater stopping power than the standard brakes but are the standard brakes that poor? I've said from the start that Ford should have included the premiums as standard but realistically, that extra 3 grand on the rrp (plus the 18's that are required) would have meant a lot of us looking at another vehicle all together.

The bottom line is, as with everything, if you can afford it and want them then fine. The standard brakes, however, should do their job so long as their not constantly stomped on.

I was going to get the 18s anyway, but I was have to get the spare 18 as well.....hmmmmm well if you guys with the stadard brakes can agree that you have had no problem with fade and are quite happy with them then I can't warrent spending 3000 dollars on brakes that I would probabily would never use....
