Rosie Member 361 Member For: 18y 2m Posted 31/01/12 03:31 AM Share Posted 31/01/12 03:31 AM Did my 1st track day in the BA yesterday and what can I say.It was a lot harder than I expected. The thing was definitely not built to go around corners.I could beat most things down the straight but with only having King springs and Monroe gas shocks as suspension mods, I think it's safe to say I'll leave it at home next time. The car also got hot very quickly but it was a 30+ degree day. I could only manage 2-3 laps before the car went into limp mode.Any one else had much experience with a lightly modded T on the track? You picked a hell of a Track for a big Car!And on Street Tyres...The back end of Winton is very, very tight for a big Taxi.If you are going to do it again, save some Coin and get a set of R spec Tyres.- Street Tyres are just not up to it and you can get away with R spec's in the Wet as well.- And have fun! I lifting my leg and hanging on to the center console just to get around the corner haha.I had my GT-R rims at home with KU36's on them but when I fitted them up the center was too small and they didn't sit flush. I'd need spacers to run them but then they'd almost be a zero offset haha.To be honest, the tyres on the car actually hung on quite well. It was more the suspension that let it down.I had some KU36's on the rear of the car before and one day I merged onto the free way in the wet, broke traction and ended up hitting the wall so I'm a bit too nervous to put tyres like that on the back again. I'd also need to lower the car and get the guards rolled as these rims are 9.5" wide with +12 offset.Up the back of Winton I had to go that slow just to get clean lines other wise I was just all over the shop.I feel your pain with dropping a wheel. I've never done it at that speed but it's happened to me twice on the street. Front right and rear. Not fun... Not fun...sh*t happens!I just straight lined over the Ripple Strips at Winton.- Being the caring idiot that I am.- Lots of Air there! My apologies, definitely save those Rims for the GTR.- Better Track Car out of the Box to....Why mess with your daily drive when you have one of those to play with. The only thing I got was some tyre frying action.Well the GT-R has been off the road for 2 years now. Popped the motor in it twice and it's not a cheap engine to rebuild. Just bought a house too so can't afford to get it back on the road. As soon as the coin's there that will be my track car and I'll just leave the XR as street car. What's done to your car Rosie and what were your times like at winton? (No spare Hose).Tried to 'reuse' it a little shorter and got towed off when it blew off again. Finally went into Town and found an AU top Hose to do the Job.Got to do one more session and only got a 1.42 out of it.(From Memory).- No power, but had fun around the back!Since then, I have pretty much sorted the Car for Track Days and 'never' go to the Track with out all the 'essential' Spares and Tools.- Short of a major component letting go!I will get back there one Day and give it a proper go.Stick with the GTR!- It's no fun if it's not affordable! Your 1:42 is just a tad better than my 1:58 though. If the engine in the GT-R didn't let go then it wouldn't be so bad but hopefully it's a bit more reliable next time. It's fairly mild anyway so I hope it last's. So much nicer to drive than the XR. I'd drive it as a daily again if I could :D Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/78691-my-1st-track-day/page/2/#findComment-1188730 Share on other sites
