Semi Slicks On The Street

just got some rims to clear my brembos , and SCORE , came loaded with semi slicks , knew they had rubber, didn know they were semi's

they are 245/45/18's RE55s

what are they like to drive on the road in the wet , more about front end grip in rain than rear tractive effort.

Kumho KU36's on an XR8 GREAT.

Depends on suspension setup and driving stle, combined with realistic expectations of ability, actual road conditions, etc. Your question is a little like is Ford better than Holden... No right answer just lots of opinions.

well opinions is what im after really , I understnd there are lots of variables in this

but just after opions to ee its its worth keeping the semis for the rears and throwing on some "normal" rubber up front

R comps are good on the roads, even when wet.

you'd want the semis on the front, rather than the rear.

Skidpan work: If I leave all four semi slicks on, way to grippy on the rear. Replace semi-slicks on rear with 'normal' tyres and an evening of fun ensured. Therefore my experience with semi slicks on a wet surface is GREAT!

If I was forced to only have a set of semi slicks on the front or rear they MUST go on the front as that is where all the weight is transmitted during heavy breaking and that is where you want the most traction in the dry or wet.

If you don't want your semi slicks send 'em to me....

Easy solution for your question is just leave em on and see.

RE55's are fine unless there is standing water, fine if it's wet, but they will aquaplane very easily if there is puddles. You will probably find you have less grip than normal road tyres until you get a decent amount of heat into them as well when it's dry. Also they will sound like you're driving a 4wd with mud tyres on, HEAPS of road noise.

I agree with that. My RE55S are the noisiest tyres I've driven on. You need heat in them to get good grip. I've never used them in the wet though.
