November 21, 200322 yr #2 A lot of potential cat thieves troll websites like this and if they can identify a car with unique features from this website from the plates it could become a target. Happens with trade papers fairly regularly. Mine is either locked up in my garage, I'm driving it, or its in the basement of a Police station so I'm not too concerned. Also for personal privacy reasons as well I guess, can't be too careful nowadays

November 21, 200322 yr #6 wouldn't that be the same as spotting it while in a shopping centre car park, or seeing it driving and following it? Not really. If someone's signature tells you what 'unique' features your car has, then your location is included, just adding your rego could be the icing on the cake for too much info and leads to getting cars stolen. Targetted car theft is a reality nowadays, and sites like this would have a very small proportion of viewers who are looking to pinch a car, rather than genuine enthusiasm for it.Just following a car down to the local shops would lead to a crime of opportunity rather than a targetted theft. In short why draw unnecessary attention to yourself by adding your rego. It doesnt worry me, but I can understand why it concerns others.I spent 2 years in a team investigating targeted motor theft and cut/shut operations, trust me, it does happen

November 21, 200322 yr #8 Car theives can be a problem, but they'd basically need the keys to steel the T. That would mean car jacking.. Oh crap, I hate guns (although I did shoot an M-16 when I was overseas once, what a rush that was).Oh well, I recon if you were a criminal, the part of Canberra where I live would be the best place to cause trouble, after hours especially. We need more police around here *looks at battered and bruised vitara in the driveway*.

That would mean car jacking..Car Jacking mmmmmm hope that doesn't become popular here as it is in Johannesburg in SA , over there stoping at traffic lights is certainly optional.BTW they call traffic lights "robots " ??
November 22, 200322 yr #10 I thought that people blanked out their number plates for the following two reasons:If they make a post about speeding, racing, doing burn outs, etc. they can't be tracked down by the police and get in trouble. If they make any mods and don't tell their insurance company, the insurance company won't find out.VG, I can guess the answer to the question I'm about to ask, but I'd rather you posted it as I could be wrong. How does my number plate help a thief determine where my car is?
