Engine Running Really Rough

Hi Guys,

I remember reading a similar thing once before but cannot remember the details.

I went to start my T tonight and it didn't start first go so I turned the ignition off and tried again. After a few seconds the engine finally started but the car had a really severe shake because the engine was running so rough. I turned the car and tried again and it was just the same.

I then went back upstairs into the office to get the Ford Assistance number. When I got back downstairs ten minutes later I tried again and everything was fine, I then drove home with no problems at all.

The car has only done 2500kms, and I'm just wondering if this is a regular thing or hopefully just a one off.

Any replies will be appreciated.

I have had the same thing. Even blow back through the air vents with exhaust gas!

Runs rough for a while then is OK

get them to check your valve springs. I have already been through one engine like this!

I had this same problem . But I just shut it down and restarted and away she went. That was about 4000km ago. I have had no further problem since and currently have nearly 8000km on her.

Never happend to me but Ive heard of it,take it back and get it sorted and dont take any sh!t, I was Mr nice guy at first ,what a mistake. those lumps of meat think they are so cool,all they do is data entry at reception,then they treat you like you stuffed the car just for kicks.

BTW I changed dealers and Im happy as a pig in

had problem at 10k with sick motor was gizmo for VCT. some floxam? in valve,pulled out,blown out,put back,now run like clock again.

I haven't had this as such, but on start up get hot air through until it settles and the correct A/C setting taes over - annoying.

Mine was getting a rough idle after a quick blast and having to stop quickly (say for that RED light). Seemed to me like an over-feulling problem.

Hasn't happened for a while now though.

Thanks for all the replies.

I rang Gary Dennison (Service Manager) at Brad Garlick Ford at Ryde and he was an absolute gentlemen. Apparently it is possible that some really fine micron crap from the oil can can make it through the micron screen. The mixture becomes stuffed but the CAM solenoid is self cleaning and with the crap in the solenoid the throttle can be at full advance and the computer freaks which is where the severe vibration comes in.

Apparently if it happens more than once the filter may need to be cleaned.

Anyway, if anyone else has had a similar problem this is what may be happening.

The work vehicle was stalling at lights and not starting first go. This occured after a decent blat. Ford stated "umm Im not sure"(standard issue customer service response in the manual under section 23.1.6)

Suggested vehicle was in limp home mode and required update from website to rectify.

I was not convinced as it was not overheating but it came back fixed. Im no tech too so could be anything

I agree about your comments about GD at Bard Garlick---- a nice helpful fellow.

Starting rough is what you said and rough idle is the VCT solenoid thingo, dirt in the pipes needsa good cough and a clean. Mine needs it again, 1st done at 8000k now at 17300k

and bouncing it off the rev limiter doesnt fix it...I tried a few times

I also have the idle drop to 300 and pick up when stopped at the lights, it doesnt quite stall but it thinks about it, probably is the VCT again.
