Limited Revs In Neutral (Automatic) Why?

Featured Replies

Just brought a ba turbo and noticed it only revs to 2800 rpm in neutral and peak revs in park. BTA motorsport has upgraded the auto says the prev owner.

why would you need to rev the engine any higher in neutral? Its most likely a rev limited a parameter in the ECU.

#3

It is.

It's so idiots can't rev the crap out of it in neutral and then bang it into drive.

Adam is 100% spot on and it can be adjusted in the tune, but why?

hey I used to have a 1991 auto hilux, it wouldnt do a stand still on wet grass, but I used to always rev it to 5000rpm and slap it into D, but then again, it was built toyota tough, I reckon I did it more than 20 times on a 330,000km old hilux... beast it was :)

And that's why the auto has this function calibrated into it,Just for people like you.

If these people had any idea how an auto tranny works, they would know why its not a good idea lol

I think most of them don't give a f*ck, just loke those flogging the sh*t out of their car 3 seconds after starting it cold.

Yes, all the autos are the same as the lads say Solly.

But why does it hurt the auto in neutral compared to manual? Not suggesting anyone is wrong, but why is a bad idea as Benji says? Or does it hurt the manual box too but because its (as there word suggests!) manual, there simply is no override?
