If the engine is pinging would it throw up an error code that can be read by the xcal3 box? Also, can I use the data logging to look at what the knock sensor is doing?

If yours is a BA you will need an xcal2 to datalog the knock sensor amongst other things. I've never been successful with logging the important stuff on a BA with an xcal3.
