I seriously looked at trading my T in earlier in the year on a GT. City's were going to give me about 47k trade in, I was happy as larry about that! But there were a few things that drove me away from the GT unfortunately;

Insurance

The fact that I couldn't park it anywhere without stressing about it (I am terrible when it comes to my T as it is!)

I will have my T paid off a lot earlier due to lower repayments. I still dont own my own house!

I am always jealous as hell when we get a new GT or a GT-P in at work, and I always will be. But at the end of the day I still own a fantastic car, which I am very happy with. Now that the AP brakes are on, the T is even better.

My 1.8c worth.

I also went through the same exercise.

You might like to also checkout Redhawks old thread http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...posts&hl=&st=25

My comments from 24/9/3 were as follows:

".... Also, parked in the caryard was a manual blueprint GT-P demo car with leather, sunroof and other goodies with 9k on the clock. It was the dealer principal’s car.

Anyway, as you do, I also decided to check out the option of swapping my manual blueprint with leather and sunroof & 6k on the clock…. They want $76k for the car (actual retail is $85k (yes!!), but offered me $40k, then revised to $43k.

That means me dropping $13k off my original purchase price from 4 months ago, them dropping $9k of theirs (doesn’t seem fair).

I took the GT-P for a test drive. The V8 sound is glorious, seats fantastic, and very easy to drive. I’d rate it marginally quicker than the T, but with nowhere near the extra torque down low that I expected. However, I doubt that it’s worth 30k (maybe $20 closer) more than the T (with the options). The cheaper GT may be a better option if you don’t want the extras. I can see where the extra money has gone into the GT. Unfortunately, the T has been designed and built to a price; yet its base performance is excellent for the price.

If I was choosing again I’d go the GT-P. I initially had sticker fright with the $85k GT-P quote, with the dealer not prepared to discount (back in May). Now I’d go that way.

But …. the main issue for me is the lease; after $5k of lease payments the payout is $2k more than the original amount? So jumping ship would cost $13+5+2k = $20k!!!!!!

So it just doesn’t seem to make sense to me…. And of course my wife would NEVER EVER let me forget about it."

Now, 2 months later, I'm sure I made the right choice in staying with the turbo.

I will put the money into mods, (Herrod springs, 6 pot brakes, special exhaust, Nizpro kit, 19" wheels) as I have no problems modifying my turbo cars, and will have a T that will easily eat the GT. I won't have the sound, seats or street cred of a GT-P, but I will have a car that goes substantially faster and outbrakes the GT with a similar level of handling. Lowered T's with 19" wheels do look great. As for the sound, yes it's very hard (near impossible) to replicate that great GT sound, but the the T can be given a far better sound.

I think the T will gain more street cred as time goes by, but it needs to be better supported by Ford, with quality improved.

If you do want something better than the T, and won't modify the T, or you are not happy, then change over to the GT if you can afford it. But I would not do it now, but at least wait for the next version to appear.

The current GT is a heavy car .... too heavy, which takes the performance edge off it, and I'd expect Ford to do something about it sooner or later.

Brian,

Priced all the above Herrod mods, looking at about $5k. A bit too much just yet, perhaps after the house extensions and home theatre. :hiwelcome:
