Guest Mr Walker Guests Posted 08/05/03 02:40 AM Share Posted 08/05/03 02:40 AM Davo,Is it safe? I remember alot of talk about K&N Filters flowing better but not filtering as well as standard ones. What's the go? Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/733-aftermarket-air-filters/page/6/#findComment-21673 Share on other sites

Guest exr6 Guests Posted 08/05/03 04:32 AM Share Posted 08/05/03 04:32 AM Our dyno day proved a big increase with the BMC filter. My XR6T auto - 192Kw rear wheels (stock)XR6T auto with BMC filter - 202Kw rear wheelsThe ECU seems to allow this no with problems Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/733-aftermarket-air-filters/page/6/#findComment-21713 Share on other sites

Filters are designed to block a certain amount of particles above a certain size, can also be described as the Beta ratio. I need to find out more.As far as the ECU working, if the ECU cannot detect any faults, then it will simply adjust the signals according to the information it receives. In other words, if it "sees" more air and the temp is OK and the O2 sensor is OK, then it will simply give the engine more fuel. More air + more fuel = bigger bang = more grunt. This is of course provided that the numbers it "sees" are within its' operating tables. Bit like the MAP sensors on some of the older N/A engines. If you put a blower on them, the MAP sensor wouldn't recognise the positive boost, so the engine just ran lean cause it couldn't get more fuel.I'm not a computer whiz, but I think that's what happens if you just try o overboost the stock setup, hence the need for different computer bits. There must be someone who can explain it better than this? Guest atessa Guests Posted 16/07/03 01:53 AM Share Posted 16/07/03 01:53 AM SUN-EX PERFORMANCE : BA 4.0 TURBO BMC REPLACEMENT FILTER $165Copy from bmc website http://www.bmcairfilters.com/index.asp?IDLang=0 PERFORMANCEBMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident. DESIGN AND MATERIALSQualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability. ADVANCED TECHNOLOGYBMC technical staff has developed a particular production system based on soft rubber moulding which produces the familiar BMC red filters. They are made in one single piece with no welded joints in the corners, thus avoiding breaking risks. This system, called "Full Moulding" comes from R&D in F1 and it is significant of BMC air filters' technical and quality specifics.
