Boost Guage Only Reading Vacuum Not Psi

G'day,

Have an autometer boost gauge in my stock xr6 turbo, I have plumbed it between the blow off and the manifold, but it only seems to read the vacuum side of things. Any suggestions on why its not reading boost?

Cheers

You may have put it in the wrong place. However, it is an electronic one? Mine has a tube that goes to a sender and then qires go to the guage. The sender and/or guage could be shot.

Troubleshooting the guage should be easy. Try the connection to a different spot in the intake somewhere although its all pressurised so it really shouldnt matter, or try another guage if ya can.

If its stock though, you may only be producing a fe psi of boost. Maybe you have just discovered a boost leak???

Sorry, havent helped you much have I?

The gauge has the tube connecting to it. Before I put it in, I gave it a quick test by lowing in the tube and the gauge moved no worries. The vacuum level does decrease when I put the foot down but it never has shown on the boost side of the gauge at all. Seems to be running between 10 - 20 on the vacuum side.... Boost leak? very new to this caper, more info on that would be great.

Cheers

Mate I am limited in my knowledge on it as well, but you can get the hot side pipe on the intercooler (common I beleive in Fgs, not so in BA/BF) come adrift and this will reduce boost. Have a search in the threads, perhaps the turbo thread for boost leak.

If the guage is ok, and fitted correctly then you simply arent boosting. that's why its not showing up on the guage. There is a thread where you can test for a leak but its pretty involved. Someone else may know more. But do a search or go to the Newbie thread (sorry to call you a newbie) and and a browse. I'm sure there are tell tale signs.

Sounds like its plumbed right so really its pointing to no boost.

I also have this same problem I just reinstalled my boost gauge along with another 2 and its now sitting on 30vac to start and under boost (14 psi) it moves up to 16vac so it reads the boost but its all in the vac side I don't understand because it all worked sweet before I reinstalled it, heres a pic to help you understand.

Mechanical or electrical gauge? What is it on with the car off? Didnt drop it or anything?

Mechanical mate it sits on 30vac all of the time unless under full boost I got a feeling its had it haven't been too ruff with it.

Yeh sounds like its out of calibration.

When I bought gauges for my old VL, brand new, took it out of the packet and into a well known fittings shop, to get some braided line and fittings, got home and realised that the gauge was now sitting on 30psi (oil pressure gauge) and had a dint in the bezel.

I rang and emailed the company and basically my word against theres, so I thought :censored: now I have to buy a whole new gauge. Rang around a bit and sent it off to Rocket Industries, that recalibrated it and put a new bezel on for me and it was only like $40 or something.

Have a look on the web for then and get in contact, hope it helps
