29/10/03 07:48 PM29/10/03 07:48 PM #1 Can someone provide information on just how good/crap Fords alarm system is that's fitted to the BA. I can't find any information about it anywhere.
29/10/03 09:59 PM29/10/03 09:59 PM #2 l am not sure if the alarm in the GT is the same as what Ford fit to the XR's, but l do remember reading somewhere that the XR alarm is integrated into the BCM We have an actual alarm unit underbonnet so maybe its different.Anyway, l have the same problem with this car as l did our TS50, opening the boot when the alarm is on sets it off, and its a real pr!ck to disarm. Have to close the boot and lock/unlock the car several times before it will shut up. Never were able to get it fixed by any of the dealers the TS went to, and now the GT has the same problem. Apart from that, the system seems ok. l havent had it go off on me yet when l wasnt opening the boot so l dont know just how sensitive it is. It does chirp on lock and unlock which l do remember being something a few members here had issues with a few months back (NT Turbo maybe!?)
29/10/03 10:32 PM29/10/03 10:32 PM #3 I have the Ford Alarm, it is intergrated (BEM upgrade), has a battery backed up siren. It lacks a motion/shock sensor which is easily added and doesnt chirp on lock twice as the old BEM did.I'm sure there's other threads on it here somewhere??
29/10/03 11:59 PM29/10/03 11:59 PM #4 Mondie mine does the same, open boot alarm goes off.Have found press unlock doors first, then boot no prob. It didnt do it at first ,ford had a go at it,lasted a week.Other folks have had the same prob.vik
30/10/03 02:07 AM30/10/03 02:07 AM #5 Seems these alarm systems have minds of their own and all do something different.Wife's XT (standard immobiliser) - horn beeps briefly if you try to lock it when it is already locked. My T (Ford-fitted alarm) - no chirps or horn sound on arm/disarm, even with repeated arming/locking. If I open the boot when the alarm is on, it gives 3 warning beeps of the horn. If the car is disarmed/unlocked and no door is opened within a set time, it gives 3 beeps and rearms/relocksI understand the alarm on the GT gives warning chirps on arm/disarm.As far as I am aware, they are all pretty basic with no form of shock sensor, or interior movement detectors etc. Therefore they wouldn't react to a "smash and grab" through a broken window. If anyone has successfully upgraded the optional Ford "upgrade" alarm, details would be very welcome.Regardszeke
30/10/03 02:17 AM30/10/03 02:17 AM #6 I have the Ford alarm fitted to my T. Mine chirps twice for lock & once for unclock. The system chips 3 times if the boot is opened/closed whilst the car is armed (when opened using the remote). I haven't tried opening using the key. From memory, the handbook states that the chirp on change of arming status can be switched off.The system needs an additional shock sensor, to make it more effective against smash and grabs.

30/10/03 01:47 PM30/10/03 01:47 PM #9 I have the Ford alarm too. It doesn't have any shock/movement sensors. Mine beeps 3 times if you open the boot like Zeke said. If I unlock the boot, but take a while to actually open it, the alarm will go off.And here's the part that I find most annoying about it. I'd actually like a few other people with Ford alarms to try it and tell me if their cars do it too, or if it's just mine. If I am in the car with the engine off and lock the doors with the button on the driver's door, after about 30 seconds the alarm will arm itself. If I have the engine running and use this button to lock the doors, the alarm will arm about 30 seconds after turning off the engine. This only happens if I don't unlock the door within this 30 seconds. The annoying part is if you lock the doors with this button while driving. You get to your destination, switch off the engine and take a moment to gather some things from inside the car, talk on the phone or whatever. Then you open the door and the alarm goes off. Can be quite embarrassing.I hope all that made sense. Has anyone else noticed this?
