Good advice!

Especially coming from a beast of a car last time I saw you at the Eastern Creek drive day. Your car was one of the quickest in the group just behind that Porsche.

It was funny when I asked you......."Are you running a pod filter or the stock airbox and panel?"

and you replied........................"Nothing on my car is stock..."

Tyre choice is really important however, and I think the rules may be changing for 2011 according to the Superlap website. R888's are right on the 100 treadwear limit and should be legal for the class but I will try and confirm this.

wow im glad to see some interest has been taken in this so ill try and address each of your questions individually.

mattyb, funney you should say about the p/w stage 3 cooler. at the moment im tossing up between that and the p/m cooler, the rest of my gear being p/w though and the quality of kevs gear id say this will be the route ill go. will also have custom ally piping made from a fabricator mate of mine. as for a hard cover it have one too with a few aero extras

hirof6, will be good to see some more ford members waving the flag down there and a trade stand would be sweet. was an awesome event this year and think it was great exposure for alot of less known higher end manufacturers like Uber and so on. as for anything you can do to help out... check your voice mail and pm's in regards to a hard cover :-)

nelsonian, your post was actually very helpful in a few areas. as for brakes im very aware of the fade issues as I cant even get to the end of the hill climb stage up here without severe fade (track has alot of fast sweeping corners aswell as up and downhill sections and hard braking hairpins. im still hunting for brakes atm though as you have said I havnt written off goin ap's though I do have a set of 6 pot brembos being offered to me and with the right cooling and pad combo I think I may be right?? as for tyres, my selection is fairly limited by class though if what you say about r888's being true they will be the ones I will run. I have a family member in fairly deep with toyo so the choice of tyre will be dictated by the support I recieve from them. the r1r's were only the tyres going to be run due to the compound rule. suspension is going to be one of the main areas we focus on in combination with braking... making consistant power is the easy part as far am im concerned. I have a wheel alligner who is fairly experienced when it comes to mild track setups and I have stuck with him since back in my silvia / jap import days. playing with allignment and suspension combos will be where this project succeeds or fails I think so that will be where most of our focus will be.

cheers adam

Good to see you getting involved.

Having done a bit of track work in my ute:

Tyres. R888 are sh*te. I run them on my Evo. Go RE55's or A050.. RE11s if you want to import them.

Brakes. Don't skimp on pads. Run GOOD fluid. Castrol SRF is what I use.

Suspension. Get the back end to stick. My ute was hopeless with over 320rwkw on A048's. Front swaybar was one of the best mods I did..

Drop weight...

For the track, get a heat gun (Infra-red) Use it to take the temps of the inside, middle and outside of your tyre.. This will help you get your camber correct without too much effort... I use a Fluke 561

One of the best mods I did in the Evo was a set of pedals.. If the feet stay put it's one less thing to worry about.

Good luck with it and have some fun.. Keep the updates coming.

Hopefully Rosie will come in here and give his advise, he has a lot of track time behind him and through trail and error has his car set up extremely well.

Although it will be a big ask to put a heavy ford up against a track bound evo, I still think if set up is correct you can be competitive. My last track day at the creek I ran 1.53 on Toyo R1R's, that is with 400+ rwkw and tein suspension. My suspention set up was more street then track so I would guess with some improved driving ability and a more a aggressive track set up, somewhere close to 1.50 should be achievable on the R1R's....

Better tyres and better driver (not hard) and I think 1.48 ish would be a good target time... I must add that I have no idea what the ute will be like on the track.

A 1.50 would get you right in the middle of the pack when compared to 2010 results...That would be a massive achievement.

I think you would be in a lot better position if you could get some track time (as much as possible) at the creek btween now and super lap 2011....

SOunds like a great build up.

Make sure you post heaps of pics of the path you are taking to keep us up to date.

Hopefully you come up with something along these lines. All the best

I have since found out that the tread wear rating must be greater than 120 for this class in 2011 which cancels out all the R spec tyres above. This makes the R1R a good choice (140) or the Advan Neova AD08 (180) that won the class last year. These RE11's look good too:

sounds exciting and the boys have raised a number of good points above. What I will say though is to get your tune smooth with good boost control and progressive power delivery. Given the tyre limitations and bulk power you have I think that you are not chasing peak HP at all in this case - its very different to drag racing. You want delivery like a naturally aspirated motor so you can get power down on corner exit. Good luck :)

Currently the focus is on handling and braking more than power. The power we currently have is ample in regards to the tyres we are using. Power delivery will also be looked at too though considering we are using the standard size turbo it is on so early it almost feels atmo. I also think with the e85 tune we may pull some boost out of it and up the ignition timing as I don't think Any more than 400rwkw is gonna be necessary and reliability will also be something we look at. Will add some more tonight

Cheers adam

Spot on Adam!

Th trick is to carry 'some' acceleration into the Corner and keep feeding it on as you go through!

- Otherwise the weight will carry you sideways!

Your power levels will be more than enough for a 1.50 at the Creek!

I can't stress the importance of 'BIG' front Brakes enough for a heavy Car!

I run Six spot AP Calipers, on AP Hats and 362mm Rotors, with AP four spot Calipers on little 330mm Rotors on the back.

- I have tried Ferrados and Pagids, of all types, but found Endless Pads on the front, with Pagid Endurance Pads on the back, unbeatable!

They bite and stay bit!

I can now count on my braking at all points, at all times!

'COOLING'and 'RELIABILITY' of all components is definitely the key to fun Days at the Track!

- I have spent the best part of 'two' Years achieving this!

As for Tyres for this event, you will just have to go with those they allow!

I use the Hoosier R6 and will never change, but you may have very little choice in the matter.

Either way, you will have a blast once you get through the Pain Barrier of sorting your Car!

Me and a couple of other mates 'may' yet be having a crack at this event as well.

- Not to win it, but to have some fun doing it!

Good luck mate!

Sorry Adam, but I forgot something critical!

You will have to fit an Engine Breather Catch Can 'above' the Breather and either install a Diff Cooler or Catch Can to the Diff Breather!Ford Diffs through large quantities of Diff Oil out of the Diff!

- It's a Ford thing!

I have been told the Diff Cooler 'may' be the solution.

- I am getting one fitted shortly!

I have a BA, but caught up with Nelsonian with his FG at Eastern Creek recently and couldn't help but notice the Diff Oil all over his rear Spoiler!
