Hi all

My 4 spd has just suffered damage to its planetary gear set.

This box was rebuilt a year ago, so its tuff but not the gear set which is apparently a weak point.

My only option is to get it repaired but what alternatives are there to for more strength. I have heard AU V8 gear sets being used. Anyone verify this?

It's going to cost about $1500 for a new gear set,and seeing as I am up for the parts and this is the only thing need doing, I want to make sure it lasts.

I have 300kw at the treads which surprises me as there are cars here with more power through a 4 spd.

Any help and suggestions appreciated.

The biggest advice I can give you after having 3 rebuilds (at 250rwkw's) is take it to the right people!

It was rebuilt by Kewish who appear to have a good rep.

I think the gear set failing has no bearing on their workmanship. At a loss as to why it has happened though.

If it is just bad luck and just getting the standard gearset for the BA 4spd then no probs, but are there billet gearset cases availiable or any other options out there.

there is nothing that can be done to the btr to hold decent power reliably. zfs are coming in for rebuilds. theres two choices. continue to rebuild or install c4/t400/p/glide.

all depends on your tune as I have found out the hard way. But planetries smashing? headsex had that issue after powersliding with full carload in 3rd gear!

My advice, stop power sliding :P

Take it to a reputable 'auto' tuner. Dyno-mite have a few 10 sec 4sp BTRs an a 9sec. Im hoping to move into the 10s bracket with my 4sp btr and their tune over next few weeks! :)

not just the box that has to be built right if the settings in the ecu aren't right then that causes premeture failers too that's what happen to my last box, they don't last forever with big power but if there set up right and you show them a bit of respect then they do last a fair while.
