14/06/10 12:02 PM14/06/10 12:02 PM #1 hi guys, im probably looking at rebuilding my engine if my block is still good, as it shat itself the other week. Still dont know whats wrong with it because it gets pulled out tomorrow. My question is, I want to be building it stronger than stock. I dont know much about engine internals and was wondering what internals should I strengthen? I saw on a previous topic that someone had mentioned Forged pistons, rods, bearings and head bolts. But because I know stuff all about engines, this doesnt really mean alot to me as I dont understand what these things are or do. I just want to know everything about whats going into my engine and why? Thanks to all who can answer my question.Cheers Jesse.
14/06/10 12:08 PM14/06/10 12:08 PM #2 It will depend on what you are planing on doing with the car. A few guys on the forum have bought F6 short motors which is basicly just the block with no sump or head.
14/06/10 12:10 PM14/06/10 12:10 PM #3 Do oil pump gears as well if you are going to put in a forged setup... Then you can go for some serious sh1t power!!!
14/06/10 12:40 PM14/06/10 12:40 PM #4 Author so if I just brought the f6 short motor, could I use my existing heads and sump if the are in good condition? and whats involved in the heads? is that the cams and the valve springs? Sorry about my lack of knowledge.
14/06/10 04:07 PM14/06/10 04:07 PM #5 Im pretty sure one of the blokes use all his other parts. Do a search you should be able to find it by typing "f6 short motor"
14/06/10 11:40 PM14/06/10 11:40 PM #6 best thing you can do is f6 short block. I think brand new they are 2500$ from ford. Put your head on (its a complete head so you can just unbolt old head from old motor and put on new motor. Just make sure you take your head to a proper person to ee if its warped/cracked/etc etc. 90% of the time its damaged so yeah just make sure!check ebay for motors. Always some laying around there. If you want to forge the motor, billet oil pump gears, stronger rods and head bolts id say are the minimum. Do those and you can chase huge 500+rwkw power from past experience on this forum that ive researched.
15/06/10 03:15 AM15/06/10 03:15 AM #7 I went the F6 short route a couple of years ago. Tuned to 370rwkw, it has been reliable and runs very nice. Depending on your budget and how much power you think you'd be happy with, you may want to do rods and pistons. If you plan to stick to the high 300's, it's been proven an F6 short can be reliable with a 'safe tune' for a few years if you look after it. Definitely do oil pump gears and even better, get a modified pump from Atomic. Last time I checked, BA blocks are about $750 and BF around $1100. You could use your old crank and use forged rods and pistons. A head reco can go from $1500-$2500 depending on what you get done. You don't need bigger head studs for high 300's but getting new ones is a must. I'd be using new studs and bolts on exhaust and turbo as well.Again, I think you should look at your budget and go from there because that will dictate what power levels you'll have to build your motor for.If you need rods and pistons, give me a pm. I have a couple of sets left of Mahle Powerpak pistons (same as Atomic use and Spiro has used in his current 1000+rwhp F6) and Argo rods left over from when I bought them for my big-banger build (I bought extra sets to get them cheaper).
16/06/10 07:12 AM16/06/10 07:12 AM #8 Author Budget wise is hopefully not over 5 g's. Because I need a new clutch aswell. I just went to ford to ask for some prices, now they couldnt give me a price of a f6 short without a vin number and she was saying something about if I try and put it into a non fpv car they will know through vicroads and stuff. Anyway I got a quote for a 05 onwards xr6 turbo short block and the price was $3600! and its the same for a fg xr6 turbo short aswell. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to put a fg engine into a b series and what exactly needs to be done? Becuase isnt the fg xr6t short the same as an bf f6 internally wise?
16/06/10 07:38 AM16/06/10 07:38 AM #10 Author I did over a month ago but it wasn't specifically for a post 06/60 motor, just a xr6t motor. Ill give them a call again tomorrow. But the only thing is how do I know that the engine hasn't been thrashed from one of the write offs or it hasn't been serviced properly? just dont want to have anything f*ck up again.
