one looks like an xr8 tip and the other standard xr6t

Wez has nailed it.

When you see a brand new XR8 exhaust, compared to a brand new XR6T exhaust, the 8 has a kinda chrome divider strip in the middle just like the 1st photo.

After a little driving though, the tips would look the same!!!

Careful Cro and RJS, it seems according to Microcat, the rear mufflers are different from a XR6T to a XR8. According to Microcat that is......... not always 100% accurate.

I can do a little more research into it if you like.

Maybe you have stumbled across a new mod..... :pimp:

Slightly off topic.

There is a tie-up between the two exhausts. I was told by a Ford engineer that the XR6T has had the same rear muffler (straight thru) from the beginning.

When the XR8 was released, it had a straight thru centre muffler and they started using the same centre muffler on the XR6T's as on the XR8.

Might explain the mid-model increase in decibels in the XR6T, that was covered in a previous thread from several months ago.

Zeke, please dont take this the wrong way, but why do the tailpipe mufflers for the XR8 have a different part number to the XR6T then? If they are the same, they should have identical part numbers then? :wwww:

If they actually are the same, it would be yet another catalugue error for Microcat interpreter users, which wouldnt suprise me.... and people wonder why spare parts can be so frustrating!!!!

Sorry, I didn't explain that very clearly. I meant the rear muffler on the T hasn't changed since they started building the turbos (not that they were the same as the XR8), but the centre muffler changed to the same as the Xr8 when the XR8 came out.

So if I'm right, the part numbers for a centre muffler for the T and the Xr8 should be the same and, as you say, the rears different.

I have asked before on this forum if the part number for the centre muffler on the T changed early this year, but I guess they could do a running change and keep the same part number. This would mean that an owner of an early (2002) T would notice a slightly louder note if they had to buy a new standard centre muffler for any reason.

Hope this make more sense now. If you reckon I've still got it wrong please let me know.

Hey guys, it has been a while since I have logged on. Lost my internet access @ work.

I have spoken to Herrod & Ford techs in Melb and they advised that the XR8 & XR6T share the same exhaust system. The tip differentiates between the 6 and the 8.
