Water Pump Leaking At 7000k!

took her in yesterday to check as was running hot , and told they need it for a whole day. anyone had this prob.

also filled up with tap water?

Mine was replaced at about 6,500kms.

Had my water leak fixed 1 month ago,Now leaking again from the same place.So time consuming taking back to the dealer.Think it can wait for my 30000km service to get it done again.

Nothing to worry about.

I drive my car damn hard (ok, thrash the sh*t out of it!) and have had a few issues, but all quickly and quietly fixed by ford.

Includes:

power steering leak - some seal fixed.

Water pump seal replaced

Diff seal replaced

Blew the turbo output pipe off the turbo

And a few other bits and pieces I cant remember. Others have also had these issues.

But dont stress, they will fix it and I have found with my issues once fixed they dont seem to happen again. (Touch wood!)

Oh, and dont use tap water if you can help it. (Emergencies or very small topups once off only). The coolant is supposed to be 33% ethelene glycol, and unless you use >33% and add water to it, then just adding water to normal coolant means you are running your car with lower than required cooland content.

This reduces corrosion protection, and can actually increase corrosion if your water is hard as the coolant can more easily hold a voltage, and this speeds up corrosion.

The result are usually that the coolant both freezes and boils much easier...and can help your car overheat or catch a cold.

gonna complain to dealer as I watched the mechanic put tap water into the filler, he told me " no probs " YEH

also noticed they scrathed the paint on the strip above the grill, leaning over I gather..rrr no one scrathes my car and survives!

It is quite normal to fill the cooling system back up using tap water.However after it has been refilled the engine should be ran until it reaches normal operating temperature.Then the coolant concentration level should be tested (should be -18 deg or 33%concentration) and then drained and refilled with the required amount of coolant to restore the specified concentration.This is covered by your new car warranty.Settle for nothing less.

Also,you might be interested to know that there is now a permanent fix for this problem.It involves fitting a collar in the end of the pipe that makes it impossible for the pipe to be fitted incorrectly which in turn stops the "o" ring from distorting.But then again they also said they had a permanent fix for the brake shudder We'll all just keep our fingers crossed.

Must be a crap position to be in FORDTECH?

Factory has a 'flaw' they tell you how to fix it, but the fix doesn't alsway work, so they give you a 'better' fix and well it's just as hit-or-miss as the first... And so on.
