OK, so after my little swarree in the paddock on Sunday in the name of science and education. I seem to have developed a noise from the rear driveline.

You can only hear it when you are turning into a street. Like say 20 to 30kmp/h. It's like a woor woor woor ha ha.

It's an oscillating, deeper note. Not a whine.

Once you are tracking strait it goes away. Well maybe the tire roar takes over. Nah. It's loud enough to be heard over say JJJ on volume 26.

Its an FG XR6, std diff running std power, but lowered some. But not that much. 35cm ride height.

Could it be as easy a fix as adjusting the Diff or pinion bearing preload ?

And yer I know diagnostics over the net are impossible

Dunno about FG but this is normal on B series with LSD, would guess it's the same diff. Sometimes I can hear mine doing this too. The way you can tell if it's normal is if it only does it when the diff is warmed up. So first thing in the morning, go do some tight turns around a roundabout or corner. If you can't hear it, go for a long drive (at least half an hour) on the freeway, then test again. If you can hear the noise now, don't worry, it's normal.

But if it makes noise when the diff is cold, something could be wrong.

sounds like you could have done some damage to the spider gears, or their shafts..

My mates have blown a few diffs, that is what too much single spinner does!? nasty... maybe change the oil.. drive it till it dies? or get ford to change it under warranty..

Hi XR09,

Won't be a locker, but should be an LSD surely.

Only around tight corners? Has to be the "differential" action IMHO. Sounds like the LSD part is grabbing and releasing/chattering trying to compensate for the inside and outside tyres being on different arcs when turning, rather than a smooth action.

Also sounds like an LSD in need of some Castrol SAF-XA oil (or similar) and some G6o Nulon (auto trans suitability). Might be worth a talk to Nulon on their free tech line. I have used them before and they are knowledgeable about their product and what is going on with issues that people are having in the real world.

If it has the M78 in it, it will be similar to the old Borg Warners with cone type LSD.

Having a BF T and not an FG....not 100% sure that the diffs are the same in the newer model, but given the same crappy diff mount is used, I would be somewhat surprised if they weren't.
