If it's just trying to get up a little that's pretty normal

that's a pretty standard run in the vid

so get it done in shoot f6 and ask them to try 4th gear ,3rd is for the 4spd auto's

Have a read of this Arkayne.

*Beep*, my AFR's were very similar. Extremely rich for a stock tune.

If it's stock and strapped correctly it shouldn't lift at any revs. If anything it should squat.

When mine was dyno'd it had a fairly aggressive power ramp and I filmed most of the runs (buggered if I can transfer them from a JVC HDD camcorder to Windows format though) but when the boost comes on you can clearly see the car squat.

Good luck though.

Copy the file from the camcorder, rename the extension to .mpg from .mod and it will play in anything.

It definitely picked up a bit more than that. Also it's an FG, not a BA or BF, so not sure if that makes a difference.

So the link you posted shows the guy running in alll different modes. Which is the correcto ne though? It seems only 2-5kw difference between shoot8 and shoot6f, so should I really consider putting my baby back on that dyno of doom (hate seeing the poor thing rev out so much) :P

Also good to hear about the AFR, I was hoping nothing odd was happening with my readings... Would you ever consider tuning your car and raising the AFR line? Is it safe to do this?

Ba to FG shouldn't make any difference to how it sits on the dyno .

and yes tuning up to 12-13 is a better fuel ratio under throttle

I may have to video record it next time to show how much it lifted. Honestly he adjusted the straps 3 times, and all 3 times only took the car up to 3000 revs to know something wasn't sitting right. It did lift quite a bit more than that video posted. Maybe this was because it was on 3rd gear? (it's a ZF auto btw). But if he's the only half decent dyno runner and the only tuner in town, what are my options? :P

Generally if a car is tuned only, eg no other mods are done bar a tune, most of the gains come from a couple of pounds more boost and raising the AFR's from around the 10:1 ratio to 12-12.5:1. This is where most of the additional power is made along with some tweaks to timing and boost.

Also, your car shouldn't be revved any more than about 5500-5900rpm as the power and torque curves will probably be ramping down by then.

When my car was dyno'd the operator insisted on running it to the hard cut for the first couple of runs.

I politely insisted he step off the go pedal after 5500rpm due to no more power or torque being produced.

Needless to say he did so.

So I guess my option is the ask him for a free dyno run after yesterday's incident? I mean, If I get a tune done there, plus ask him to install the additional stuff (CAI, exhaust), I might as well ask for 2 dyno runs free (one before, one after).

By the way, what do people think about the VCM tuning? No module is given, it's just downloaded straight into the car. I heard CAPA was the good stuff, and only just recently heard about VCM. Is it a personal choice, or is there definitely something better about CAPA? I'm only ever going to have the single tune, and because it's a ZF Auto, probably keep the car stock in normal Drive (of course, sicne I'm getting the exhaust and CAI done, probably needs a bit of tweeking), and making her a monster in Performance mode?

vcm works fine , capa just gives you the option of changing tunes yourself ie low boost for other drivers and full boost for you ,you can get around this with an e-boost set up .

you can change trans settings from one mode to the other but moving to perf mode with auto stick can't ajust the whole tune ie more boost ,

I see. Because one thign I like about normal Drive mode, especially when just driving to work, is that the gear change keeps below the 2000 rev mark, so that the turbo doesn't start spooling. I guess it's more fuel efficient that way, or something, but it seems to make sense. In performance mode, it just revs out a lot nicer when planting your foot on the floor.

So what sort of RWKW increase would someone expect from raising the AFR, boost and givign a better CAI (FG F6 over the standard FG 6T)? What's a safe boost increase that though gives better power, will still keep the car in a nice safe position as to not void warranty?

Still trying to learn this stuff out! I'm happy with the way the car is now, it's extremely fast for what it is, but if I can get better respond times and better fuel efficiency with a tune, I might as well give it a go.
