"Gary Tierney (driver) and David Carra (navigator) have been tragically killed near Forreston in the Hills during the Classic Adelaide car rally event, after their 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS left the road and hit a tree".

These guys did alright at Targa West (3rd in class) so they can steer. Guess it goes to show no matter how well you think you know your car, we all make mistakes and tarmac rallies can be dangerous. Those who've been to Targa Tasmania have probably seen just how easily it is to destroy a car in the hills! I know when Kieran, Esky and I went past the Weeks / Crunkhorn lambo, the blue tarp and massive delay's suggested things werent good.

RIP, condolences to the family but least they were doing something they knew was dangerous but enjoyable :)

Edit, after looking at the map it wasnt the road I thought but Martin Hill Road for you South Aussies

Thanks for posting.

That was actually abit hard for me to read.

Brenton Griguol's post struck me pretty hard. It's always a tradgedy when this sort of thing happens. On the street, at a sanctioned event, where ever it is.

As hard as it is, I'm also happy that they died doing something they love.

Better that, than having some random car lose control and plow into them walking to the milkbar.

Anywhere. Anytime.

RIP.

I have a friend who is competing in a BMW2002 and he is very cut up about it.

His wife wants him back and never to compete again. He understands it is part of a sport that can happen.

RIP and our best wishes go out to their loved ones

This is a sad outcome, and my thoughts go out to all of the people that this accident will no doubt impact on, family, friends and associates. Although, I think that it is important to also state that in general these events are safer than the roads on which we all drive on a daily basis. I think we all know that motorsport in all forms as competitors is a risky business, in many cases that is what is as exciting, as winning. I guess the only positive that can be taken from this (barring mechanical failure) is that know your limitations, and don't push your limits in unfamilar surroundings. RIP.

Mate, have to agree! Even though tarmac rallies are somewhat dangerous (trees 2m away at 150kms an hour and all), your probably far safer than going out on a saturday night and dealing with idiots, drink drivers etc etc

I read that blokes post and also found it touching. He should be very proud of the way he handled himself
