White Smoke On A Hill? Whats Wrong

ok guys, heres the situation,

Only facing up hill, when the car idles for about 30 sec or more, if I give it a rev it blows a thick cloud of white smoke.

A few more hits and it goes away, so it clears.

It does this on petrol or lpg, and again, only facing uphill, when it idles for a little while.

Not down hill, or on a level surface.

It has a burning smell.

Could it be coolant, oil, water, internals, or a seal.

Ive been told it could be running a bit lean, but it does it on gas and lpg.

and only when up hill. So I dont think its too lean.

Its like something builds up while idling, then clears after a few good revs.

Please help, im getting a service on saturday, and I want some ideas to tell the mechanic.

again, it only does it up hill, but are the valve stem seals hard to fix and expensive, and what do they do exactly?

from what I can understand, its actually water. because it doesn't smell like fuel, oil, or coolant.

the exhaust tip has a few drops from it, on what would be a hot day.

but where could the water be coming from?

any ideas

Tell him everything you've written in your first post.

No-one on here will be able to tell you what it is without looking at it. If a mechanic is going to be servicing it he will look at it for you.

A cooling system pressure test will help too.

White smoke usually means coolant/water leaking into the bores. Then again, yours may be something else entirely. So many varibles!

ive been told it could be my oil pickup, how could I check the pickup, is it a matter of actually taking the sump out? again it only does it on a hill so I guess that it may be bent and when the oil is at the back of the sump it just doest pick up.?? please help

if it wasn't picking up oil, you would think your oil pressure light would come on.

You could also have a leaking master cylinder, as brake fluid makes great thick white smoke.

When I was a mechanic we used to put a bottle on the vac advanced on clients cars to prank the guy doing the work.

If it does it only uphil then the angle could be enough to put a few drips in the booster and get sucked into the inlet tract. It does not take much brake fluid to show smoke.

Check the brake fluid level as a precaution.
