Hey all

last month or two been looking at upgrading the BA xr6t for a FPV Typhoon BF or FG xr6t.

Over the sale websites they are both around my price range of about $40k. Been looking all over the forums and cant realy decide. Has anyone been in this situation before? What car is the easiest one to upgrade eg: tuning. If I had the money I would go with the FPV FG F6 but ive set my self a limit.

From the way I see it that the FG is alot more modern car and apparently has the same output as the typhoon.

Anyone got any ideas it be great? :smilelove:

Cheers Tom

BF Foon all the way mate if it were me (and I wish it was!!) if you want to do mods, as there is heaps of stuff out there for the BA-BF, not so many choices for the FG (yet!) Long time proven performer too. On the other hand, I have seen people getting awesome numbers from the FGs without doing much at all!

I went the FG... I couldn't bring myself to pay 40k for a second hand turbo car that has no doubt had the balls thrashed off it. As for mods there plenty of people out there pushing 350+ with very basic upgrades. Phoon will do that too and has a few extra goodies the FG wont but like I said 40k for a second hand Australian built car was a bit unnerving.

I was looking at several BF F6 Tornado utes, all were great but interiors were a letdown. Combined with PULP only, higher insurance, fuel usage and once again, the no frills interior I went for a FG ute.. The FG's produce 270KW, which is the same as the BF F6 but do produce 20 NM or so less torque..

If you are going to go crazy with the motor then I would stick to the F6 due to some stronger bits, but if you are not going to go crazy (or planning to but realistically never will) then I would snap up a FG..

Mate, IMO go for the BF F6 now or dont go for the FG XR6T yet, wait at least for the series II to be released... If you buy the FG XR6T now it will drop value to 30k or even less by a years time. F6 would probably be there abouts in price (depends on condition and if its manual or auto). that's just my 2cents worth... Goodluck on whatever decision you make though :)

Cheers guys for all the info,

As NFORCD said if im gonna go with the xr6t fg I might as well wait till the series 2 comes. I wont be going crazy with the engine but only a few mods in the near future.

Does the Fg xr6t got 20nm torque less then the typhoon because of the smaller turbo?

But nothing's happening till I sell my BA which prob be going up for sale in about a month.

Been looking over the net for 03 BA 6t and they averaging about $19k (depending on kms and state of coarse)Hopefully then ill be able to upgrade. :eyebrows:

Depending on your age, you should also be considering insurance costs.

And if you buy the car to drive and not worry about how much 'value' it loses then the FG may be a more attractive car.

I had the same dilema in at the start of this year, went the BF MkII Phoon and have never looked back, the phoon is easily moddified, I drove a couple of FG XR6T's and they were good but I'm happy that I made the right decsission.

Good luck with it mate, either way you'll have fun

Go the fg mate they are so nice to drive not saying the phoon isnt but having driven both I would go the fg. Alot of people say that the turbo on the fg xr6t and the g6et are smaller then ba-bf phoon but if your are looking at doing mods to it (which you will im sure) then you can easily put a bigger turbo on it and with the right set up and a good tune you will be leaving any ba-bf for dead.
