Guest aza Guests Posted 09/09/03 10:50 PM Share Posted 09/09/03 10:50 PM G'day,I was at my local Ford today looking at NEW prices on a XR6T Ute & XR8. There is only around $1400 difference (Turbo the cheaper) in price. I was looking at 2nd hand but at the moment it is worth spending the extra few grand & making sure you are not buying someone elses problem!I was just wondering why 'use' went the XR6T over the XR8. It is a dam hard decision!CheersAza. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/6095-xr8-vs-xr6t/ Share on other sites

Drive both of them hard through the twisty stuff and you will understand. The only downside is that it doesn''t sound as good, although with the centre muffler out, the turbo still sounds sh*t hot. But the 8 is one of the best sounding stock engines around. The manual in the eight feels better which is also a factor. If you were getting an auto, I would definately go the turbo. If you want a manual you have a big decision to make. Either way you will be happy.Keep in mind that you can spend that $1400 on a chip and blow any 8 away. :D Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/6095-xr8-vs-xr6t/#findComment-49415 Share on other sites

Guest xr6t mayhem Guests Posted 10/09/03 11:10 AM Share Posted 10/09/03 11:10 AM I chose the 'T' for many reasons, good write ups, cheaper to buy, cheaper to run, and easier/cheaper to modify. Good luck in whatever you choose, I can see why you'd go for either. Guest aza Guests Posted 10/09/03 12:27 PM Share Posted 10/09/03 12:27 PM Well, went down to Ford today & test drove a XR8 Manaul, & I think I fell in love. Just the stock0 sound from the V8 is amazing! I live the feel of the V8 compared to the 'old' AU XR6 I have. The V8 really doesnt seem to kick in to around 3500rpm, but when she does the tacho goes wwwwooossshh to 5800rpm quicker then I can change the gear! Also, with the chip situation. That isn't something that I would do why the car is still under warranty! Seems to be a few to many problems in the turbos at the moment for my likeing. Where I have really heard bugger all about the XR8. If you compare the 2 in mods without voiding the warranty. I think you the XR8 will be better off. With Cold Air Induction, Filter, Extractors & Exhaust setup. I think that would acheive some dam nice low / mid torque what the v8 is a bit lacking! & the V8 rumble, can I really go past that! Also those mods on the turbo would be nearly as good, I think the top end & the stability of the manual gearbox & motor in the v8 would just lean my towards the V8.Ive told the dealer I want to test drive an XR6T before I can make any decision. But if the turbo feels any better, I will be truley amazed! Just need to get one in so I can have some fun! :D Ill let you no how I go, & keep the replys coming!CheersAza. :alien: ps. is a aftermarket B.O.V. void warranty on the turbo? If it doesn't make you smile, no care will.Trust me when I say it feels every bit of 230kws at the wheels! :D This was the primary reason I went the turbo ute instead of the eight - pure potential of a turbo motor. And trust me, with the exhaust and ram pod and more boost, it does sound good when you are on it. I would like the sound of the eight though - and then there is the bonnet....... mmmmmmm, lump......... The motors may have potential but the manual gearboxes don't. As for the T handling better than the XR8 how did the 8 clock a lower time around Wakefield Park is Motor magazines Bang for Your Buck. XR8's seem to be more reliable too. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/6095-xr8-vs-xr6t/#findComment-49878 Share on other sites
