23/08/09 06:09 AM23/08/09 06:09 AM #1 Hey all,Just bought a 02 mk1 ba xr6t auto with 118k on the clock. Its running 12psi, injectors, aps exhaust etc etcNow I'm having deep droning vibrations coming from my rear when I travel over 75kph.The sound doesn't change no matter what gear I'm in or revs I'm doing.I am having slight vibrations through the steering wheel.I'm thinking it could be the tires? They have around 50% tread on them and they are Marshall matrac tx 245/35r19 93y.Has anybody had any trouble like this? The droning is so bad the rear view mirror shakes so much its hard to look into it, The rear parcel shelf vibrates and makes a loud noise, its very uncomfortable to drive anything over 75kph. I don't think it could be the exhaust cause the sound would change depending on the revs and gear I'm in? but it doesn't, its the same consistent noise. If anyone has any opinions on this I would greatly appreciate it.

23/08/09 07:14 AM23/08/09 07:14 AM #5 I got my fronts done and that helped a lot...some vibe still there. Bought new rears a couple weeks later and now it's smooth sailing. I was worried it'd be something suspension related! Good luck xr6t 4.0!

24/08/09 12:11 AM24/08/09 12:11 AM #7 I had a deep drone from the rear at anything above 75km/h...consistant noise that never changed no matter what speed or gear... ended up being diagnosed as diff whine. replaced the diff (warranty!) and its all quiet again. I thought it was my tyres too, they are shagged falken 452s... Took it to a great Ford dealer and he got 5 mins down the road and says "that's diff whine mate."Change your tyres first, even borrow the rims of another xr6 if you can find someone, but you might need to start saving...
24/08/09 12:58 AM24/08/09 12:58 AM #8 Taishaft vibe??? Ford can do a driveline balance using their IDS and balancer kit if you run out of ideas. When I got my auto done it came back with a drone/vibe at anything above 80kmh so did a balance at work and all is good.
24/08/09 01:07 AM24/08/09 01:07 AM #9 Also check for small buckles in the inner edge of the rim, also eggs on the inside tyre sidewalls, I had a vibration in the front of mine, ended up being an egg - they are caused by potholes
24/08/09 02:13 AM24/08/09 02:13 AM #10 I can tell you a wheel ballence will do JACK ALL... its your tail shaftI had Exactly the same problem. took ford 3 goes to figure it out after ballencing wheels... I even replaced tyres early because of itMine was so far out of ballence they had to replace the tailshaft.
