Bushes were replaced today under warranty, and the rear end now is sooo much quieter, refined and tight... however there is a very evident drone coming from the rear end at 100km/h. It changes pitch with speed, and disappears if I go well into illegal figures. It almost sounds like I have a sub in the boot pumping out one single note constantly...

I would bet on it being stuffed tyres, as there is some vibration at different speeds that is typical of rubbish tyres (in this case Falken 452s), however this drone was not there before the bushes were replaced. Which has me somewhat confused.... I will rotate the tyres later this week to see if it makes any difference, but before I take it back to the dealer to check out, do the new bushes require time to settle/soften?

Anyone one else notice significant changes after theirs were replaced?

Did they put the tyres on the right way round? Were the bushes the stock rubber ones or were they an aftermarket replacement like Nolathane or Super Pro?

Sounds to me like the lazy priks didnt do a driveline balance after reassembling the arse end. Take it back and tell them to balance the thing with their IDS and balancer kit. Should only take bout an Hour to do and it should get rid of the vibe/drone.

Another thing to make sure of is that the rear subframe aligning holes are in line properly otherwise the arse end doesnt sit square. They probs had an apprentice on it and he didnt mark the tailshaft or where the balance weights were before he pulled it apart.

Tyres are on the right way, although I will do a rotation (the fronts are only a few months old) just to rule them out before I ring them. Otherwise they are likely to blame the tyres and do nothing. Is it really so hard to test a car up to 100km/h before handing the keys back?

I did have a significant shudder from 15-30km/h before the bushes were replaced - especially evident on acceleration in 2nd gear. That has subsided significantly, but is still there just. I assumed it was the tailshaft, I asked them to balance it, however they said it was the bushes and that's as far as they got.... again, Ill have to rotate the tyres first to make sure...

One thing though... I drove it last night and the drone has subsided alot from what it was yesterday???????????????????????? This doesnt make any sense..........................

"I drove it last night and the drone has subsided alot from what it was yesterday?????????????????" youve gotten used to it...

I had a tailshaft in mine that was so far out of ballence they had to replace it. it took them 3 visits of them tellin me it was "tire ballence" on the last one I told him to stick it an blew up at the workshop manager and told him I wasnt leavin untill the problem was sorted. after takin him for a drive he diagnosed it straight away.

bloody Fraud aprentices....

oh and dont let them rotate tyres if you have directionals on.... they'll put them on backwards.

I havnt gotten used to it. If you knew me, you would know that I pick out noises/vibrations etc that no-one else can hear and I NEVER get used to them, I have them all fixed because they all drive me crazy.

The drone has simply reduced without any explanation. Rotating tyres tonight, so Ford may or may not be receiving a call tomorrow.

Ford will be hearing from me today.

I rotated the tyres, checked everything out while I was there. Took it for a drive and nothing has changed. The same low speed shudder from 10-40km/h and the same low fequency drone/vibration between 70-100km/h..... uuurrrrggggghhhhh....

It HAS to be the tailshaft... What other component in the rear would cause that much vibration?

Carpenter Ford at gatton was where the bushes were replaced. Dont get me worng, they are a great bunch of guys and have helped out a lot. They do not have the correct machine for balancing tailshafts, hence why they never checked it, so its off to Southern Cross Ford in Toowoomba next week to finally have it fixed.... a move which I am nervous about as SX Ford have a reputation for BAD work and excuses for never fixing anything... hopefully things have changed since I was last there.

Thanks to Carpenter Ford at Gatton though. Top work and great customer service.

Hopefully I can stop complaining this time next week...
