Pretty much all electricals in my opinion, I've done it once years ago and never again. If part of the engine is greasy clean that up and the rest just put some degreaser/wd40 on a cloth and wipe it.

More likely then not washing it will be fine but there is a chance you could stuff something up and the biggest problem is that it's a bitch to find which sensor or electrical connection is f*cked.

I wouldn't imagine your XR6T has a dirty engine bay? I would steer clear of spraying any liquid in the engine bay, like dule said just spray onto a rag and clean the spots that need it. There are heaps of electrics under these hoods and would be a nightmare troubleshooting electrical damage.

nothing wrong with it aslong as you dont spray certain things such as Alternator, fuse box & avoid the coil cover as water seeps under down into the coils.

I usually use the carwash degreaser... lightly wet the motor with a mist of water first, then 1 minute of degreaser... let it sit for 2-3 minutes and rinse off.

Why are you guys so paranoid about water in the engine bay?

What do you think happens when you drive in the rain?

The only real thing you need to worry about is spraying high pressure water into anything.

Other than that, hose away.

 A good idea before washing in my opinion, is to inspect the whole engine bay, motor etc. You don't want to clean away any tell tale signs of an issue...ie oil leak, coolant leak etc. If its just your day to day dirt and grime, as Phantm said, hose away.

Also, think of all the cars that have bonnet scoops (that actually do vent to the engine bay), where's the water go when driving on a rainy day...
