Optional Extras On Xr6t

G'day,

Just wondering I can get some advice. Im looking at purchasing a XR6T very soon & just wondering what optional extras should I be looking at. Im not buying the car brand new, but trying to hunt down a 2nd hand one. Ive been looking for weeks now & found a few that have cought my eye.

The only real option im after is the premium sound! The other extras that seem to pop up are;

Common

18inch mags

Sports Wheel & Gear Knob

Tint & Floor Mats

Rare

Leather

Sunroof

Sat Nav

Premium Brakes

What extras do use recommend I try to get with the car & which are not worth worrying about? Basically, im in no rush to go out & buy the first

XR6T. Im going to wait around tell hopefully the right one shows up. I I like the black & dark blue colours! They dont seems as common as the acid, phantom & blue print. :)

Also is it worth going 2003 over 2002, or it isnt worth the trouble?

Cheers

Aza.

gidday aza,

looks like a welcome to the boards is in order, enjoy your stay.

As a member of Team HgAg, I recommend you should get Mecury Silver.

Leather is great and im glad I got it, easy to clean, look after etc and finishes off the car beautifully.

Definatly try to get a car with premium sound.

The brakes, well it would be a recommendation but IMO not necessary.

Anything else is a bonus. Good luck

The sports wheel and gear knob are overpriced and a waste of money IMHO.

18" alloys look trick but can be expensive for tyres in the future, plus you may want to put aftermarket mags on to give your car that individual look.

There has been issues with some aftermarket window tint that interferes with radio reception so find out if it's a dealer fit tint or not.

Mats are a bit overpriced too but do look good. I was lucky and picked up a set that were near new from a fellow fordxr6turbo.com member for half price.

Premium sound - I would have to say yes go for that for sure. Best sounding factory system I've heard.

Premium brakes could be something to consider as I'm sure you've read on this forum that the standard rotors are prone to warping. The other alternative (what I've done) is to replace the standard rotors with DBA slotted at a later stage.

Leather I'm not a huge fan of but it's your money and your car so if that's what you want then go for it.

Snroof would be cool though a couple of members here have had some minor glitches with theirs, I think Chris (CFJ077) was one of them.

if you're like me and you get lost just backing out of your driveway then SatNav would be good. I think Craig (Cramorr) has this in his car so he may be able to give you more detsils on how it performs.

Black or dark blue huh, hope you like washing and polishing a lot. Great colours but need a lot of work to keep them looking good.

Hello Aza,

I have....

Leather...great and easy to keep clean

Premium sound....this is a MUST because you also get the colour screen

Sunroof....never had one before and never have another car without one. It is great

Tint....Ford organised tint and it's great

I wanted Satnav but it cost's too much and would probably only use it a few times a year. I can understand if your a courier but the average person...who knows. I believe it's great though but you will need premium sound if you want it.

I go along with the other guys, the sunroof is great, premium sound is a must (you get free globe holders for the foorwells too), the premium brakes are (IMO) a must too. Leather's great, satnav's a waste for me (didn't buy it) and the rest (mats etc) you may be able to get as thow ins :-)

I have sat nav and its the best 5K (I think?) ive ever spent. I drive up to sydney a lot and it is absolutely priceless in there. Dont use it much around town as I know my way around my town reasonably well. Depends on how much interstate driving you will be doing and if you have a good navigator handy!

BTW you cant have sat nav without premium audio.

Mondie, on the forum is selling his at a good price and from memory is quite well optioned, otherwise, premium sound can't be added later so I'll get that next model I buy. nearly every thing else can come later IMO.

Welcome - and what NT TURBO said.

When you buy second hand you basically get the options for free anyway so go for a car with the best of everything you like if you can find one in your price bracket. Naturally it's better to go for a 2003 - all comes back to your hip pocket.

G'day, B)

Thanks for your replies so far! :)

I guess from what everyone is saying, all the extra's seem worth getting to a point. So, ill have to shop around a lot & see what I can pick up! I will make sure I get premium sound, which is a must. But most seem to have that extra anyway. The others will just have to hope for! Ill be looking around for after market mags so, I guess the 18's aren’t that important apart to sell for some extra $$$.

So, what do you actually get with the Sat Nav? Has anyone here got it & if you do, do you use it regularly? Or is it more of a yuppie feature that just looks & sounds good?

Now, the next big problem I face is manual, or S.S.! I currently own a manual AU XR6 now & very happy with that, but I have never driven a car with S.S. so I guess ill be asking Ford for a test drive very soon! Thanks……

Cheers

Aza

ps. Any members here from Central Queensland?

pps.

Two I have my eye on so far are;

1.) Ford XR6 turbo, 11/02, 5spd, black, 18in mags, Sat Nav, Premium Sound, 23,000kms, tint, excellent cond, as new, - $45990

2.) XR6 Turbo 2003 silhouette, 12000kms, 5 speed, 18 wheels, premium sound, ABS, traction control, RWC, perfect condition - $45500ono

I dont mind the first one at all, apart from it being a 2002, but I dont think that matters to much!
