June 16, 200917 yr #1 Hi all, well I changed the filter and oil (Tranzmax z) today in the ZF. Firstly the heads on the sump bolts were a smidge smaller then the little metal gromets that you screw through to the tranz, so if I hadve used them the sump and filter would have just dropped off . Any way I went to the local bolt place and got the same sort of bolt and bigger washers so it all went on sweet. Put all the oil in took for a drive and all seemed good . Back on the hoist to see if any leaks , but every thing ok. Backing off the hoist the ABS light came on for about 2 mins then went out.So dose any one know if ford or some one do a bigger bolt head and what was the go with the ABS light.
June 16, 200917 yr #2 A picture might help because what you're explaining doesn't make sense. They came off ok??
June 16, 200917 yr #3 Author A picture might help because what you're explaining doesn't make sense. They came off ok??Yeh right o man im trying to load the pics up now, I meant to say the heads on the bolts are smaller then the metal gromets on the after market filter assembely, so if I had used the factory bolts to put it in the sump would just slide straight off
June 16, 200917 yr #4 Author In the pics u can see the factory bolt or screw is the silver one and the other replacement one. You can also see the bronze coloured gromet in the sump / filter assembly that it screws into, ya can see how they are both the same in diameter. Those little gromets can be pushed out of the filter
June 16, 200917 yr #6 You're right about the pics......You should have said in your original post that you used an aftermarket filter and it may have made sense to start with. No big deal though. Looks like you've got it sorted.I doubt Ford will have different bolts for aftermarket filters as they would never use aftermarket stuff.
June 16, 200917 yr #7 When you change from the Plastic type to the steel type you need to buy the 21 matching bolts to go with the Steel pan, as the bolts to fit the plastic sump are too long.21 x 0736 010 347 Screw (ZF part number) some guys just cut a bit off the length of the original bolts and they are fine. There are no spacers used on the steel pan like the ones u have in your picture as the pan is steel. The spacers are to be used in the plastic pan to strengthen it where the bolt tensions.
June 17, 200917 yr #8 Author Yeh well mine had the steel pan in it with the short stumpy bolts , so I got long ones for it
