13/06/09 09:33 AM13/06/09 09:33 AM #1 Hi all. 2 nights ago my battery died. ABS light came on, then indicators failed, then lights and finally engine died. I put a new Exide battery in it then tonight the same thing happened. With the car off there seems to be plenty of electical power to lights, stereo, windows etc, but when turning over it just goes clunk clunk etc. It jump starts ok but only lasts a few minutes. No alt light on dash.Any ideas. Thanks?

13/06/09 09:53 AM13/06/09 09:53 AM #4 Author Thanks revhead. After your comment I went and checked the alt. I have a power steering leak I have been to lazy to fix. The alternator is soaked through with ps fluid. I guess that is it. Teehee.

As for the alternator I flushed it through with degreaser, the cheap red spray can stuff, and all is good there too, charges fine. Cheap fix to try before changing or rebuilding the alt.
18/06/09 01:38 AM18/06/09 01:38 AM #7 hey mate this was happening to me. im goin to replace alt. but I do have a slow power steer leak in the metal pipe above the alt but my radio turned off the light dimmed out n just died I did get abs light though
18/06/09 04:57 AM18/06/09 04:57 AM #8 Author Sounds like the same thing I had. You need to fix the PS leak first or it will screw another alternator. Try flushing the alternator with degreaser before spending dough on a new one.http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...c=57715&hl= Edited 18/06/09 04:58 AM18/06/09 04:58 AM by davidald
