I notice a bit of flare up when cold for the first few changes, when leaving home at 6am on cold mornings; but only for the first few minutes.

I always take it easy to start anyway, sometimes I just let the car idle for few minutes before leaving home ( to get the heater going).

I've done a lot of hard drag passes since the Transmax went in, and about 7000km, and I think it works very well. The box is stock still feels very good, gear changes firmed up a bit in the tune.

I have to agree with WarrenK. We had the ZF guru come out to our dealership and when he tapped into the TCM he could tell where the problem was as he could see what the car had been doing when the customer was driving it. It stores all soughts of memory on shifts and even rev limit hits etc. This guy loves the ZF box and really stands bye it and can talk your ear off with alot of info on why they do things. Very smart bloke. And yes they are "supposed" to be fill for life boxes.

Yes, correct at stock power or there abouts. I think ( and may stand corrected) the ZF is rated to around the 650nm of torque.

There are a lot of cars running far in excess of that, so the conjecture is leave it as it or try and maintain longevity.

No offense to any expert techies out there but wouldn't they be trained just on standard operating parameters ?

Just a question is all

Yep,theirs nothing that us Ford techs can do as we arent aloud to.We check for fault codes, check connections and wiring and make sure the level is right.Any problems after that and they send the ZF champ around and he knows everything thier is to know about them. And to the people who wish to change the trans oil themselves be carefull as the correct oi and level of oil is the most important things with these boxes. Level has to be checked at the right temp otherwise the level will be incorrect. We use our diagnostic tool to monitor trans temp and put the filler plug back in when the temp is correct.

I also beleive in regular oil changes if having more power running through them but just be carefull on who does it. I dont think you will get warranty either if the oil has been changed especially not changed at a Ford dealer.

TBF most of the cars doing fluid changes their warranty is shredded in any case

Yeah, seen lots of this 'sealed for life' crap around. Now someone has said that the gearbox life *for stock* is meant to be 150K.

No bloody wonder it's life is 150K when there's no maintenance on it. It's self fulfilling.

I think you are wrong thinking your EF had a ZF in it..........

no im not wrong I never said an ef had a zf nor do I think it, I must not have made my point clear to some. my point is my EF made in 1995 had over 300000kms on it and the trans had no issues, the above bloke is saying a BF made in 2006 that the trans will only last for 150000kms before needing a rebuild, which is a load of BS if there transmissions from 11yrs ago are going to out live there new ones by over twice the time there doing something wrong

It's now 3 weeks since the box was flushed and new transmax put in, and the box is much better, no flaring when cold, and firmer shifts. I'm very happy and don't mind spending the extra for the oil to have the box working as it should.
