Nest week I am drving to Sydney then on to Melbourne. as the Trusty T only has a 6 stacker, I thought I might burn some music to play on the Prmium audio. Does anyone know what types of files it will play?.

Cheers

I think you have to burn them as CD audio files. In other words, no MP3 format. Bit of a bummer, as 6 cds with MP3s on them would get you a little further than Melbourne and back.

What files to use? It isn't important what forms of files you use when you create your audio CD as long as it's in AUDIO format. Regardless of what audio format you bring to the Disc, they will all be converted into .WAV files which is an uncompressed media format, unlike MP3 or RAS. The only files you won't be able to use are Windows Media Format files or .WMF files, Realmedia files (only if encoded), and .VOC files. these are impossible to put onto CD using Nero or Easy CD because they are encoded using Microsoft's/Realmedia's/Roland's encryption and compression last I checked. That's why I went and bought a little 128mb MP3 player, so I can just plug it into the auxilery audio jack. They only cost around $100 - $130 off ebay and you can put 12 hours worth of music on them, depending on what bitrate the MP3's are at. A good lil' investment I suggest. One trip from Townsville to Brisbane for me is one full MP3 player roughly  .

 The other thing you could do to get more music on your CD's is buy 90min or 99 minute CD's. They are relatively cheap as far as bang for your buck goes, as long as your CDR/RW drive supports overburning B) .

I option the auxilery inputs for my T. The main reason being that I have a few dozen CD-R's full of MP3's that I play in my current in car CD deck. When my T arrives, I'll just buy a portable CD player that supports MP3's. On a good system the MP3 quality is very noticable, but with road noise etc, that's no major loss ;) If using the auxiliery plugs and MP3, to get the best quality use 192k bitrates, but 128k (which all my mp3's are at) is the next best thing. That and the fact that more can fit on a CD-R (roughly about 130 or so songs + or -) and random over multipal "albums" can be acheived. Something like a 10GB ipod would be ideal, but it does cost quite a bit.

Making audio CD's is relitivly simple. I use Nero for burning and it is just a matter of selecting a make new audio CD option. Then you get 2 file lists. One representing the Audio CD tracks with duration, delay between tracks etc. Then it's just a matter of finding your mp3's on the other file lister and dragging and dropping until you don't have any more room for the audio. Then press the burn button.. This description should be pretty generic for all the CD burning software out there.

In terms of the file formats on audio CD's, the filetype is actually .cdda (Compact Disk Digital Audio), but now days different OS's just do an on the fly "conversion" to their own generic file formats to and from the audio CD/CD-R etc. Windblows OS's use .wav, the old Amiga's used .aiff, macs probably use .mov or somthing like that etc.

Thanks for all of the info. I burned a CD or two with roxio and they work well!.

Now all I need is barrier protection so if I fall asleep on the Pacifc Hwy I wont wreck the car!

I have been told that due to the fact that burnt cd's are a different thickness to ones that are offered from record companies, this could cause them to jam up in your stacker--Mine did

I got told a similar thing, ie, CDR's cause the stacker to jam up. I got told this when I picked up my CD's that had gotten stuck in it. I think it's a load of BS. Just Ford trying to blame us for a fault in their product.
