Forgive my ignorance, but what's so special about those speeds?

Mine sits on about 19000 down and 1000 up...and that's a few km from the exchange.

because that's what I download and upload at not my sync speed my sync speed is about 24meg down and 3 meg up but speed isnt eveything anyway the main reason I like internode is no dropouts in my area anyway and a good snr which is what you need for online gaming and what not

Yes.

Unless you want to consider drop outs, constant line speed, helpline feedback etc...

Spot on Dags!

Hey b-rad, I really dont need to d/l faster but it wouldnt hurt ey. Im a big torrent fan so in that respect its great.. What other info would I need to know about my line, ATM I really only wanna know is who the home phone is connected with..

PIP is $$$$$$$$$$$

Ha ha Yeah - Like I said before they would be... However this is as they run a 'true' line speed connection... Business grade etc.... never any issues with the boys there - been with them for about 5 yrs now in about 3 different locations (houses)... But you get what you pay for!

Just got off the phone with Internode. I cant get internode where I live. NOT HAPPY..

Well back to lookin for ISP's..

Is this due to location? or your phone line being with Optus?

btw- b-rad, if you work for telstra then you should be able to tell if he is on the Telstra wholesale phone lines, or not...

from what im reading, im sensing that the line will be run to his parents house which might be with optus???

Iinet - are good, except you will be on hold for a long time if you need tech support - run Iinet at my other place in (parents) back in country NSW/Vic, and which the speed isnt to bad for an ADSL 1 connection, and we have been with them for over 10yrs now, their support guys are few and far between... Earlier this year I had to make more then 6 calls, each on my phone bill at over 45 mins of which still didnt get the issues resolved.

In the end I sat down and worked it out myself... Anyways, good connection, and ok line speed - not so good support...

TPG - next to no support either...

Netspace - unable to comment at all!

I supose ya do in that case, Smicky

I dont need super speed download, and the only reason why im even looking at ADSL2 is because its not that much more than ADSL1. Im currently paying $70 for 60gig with optus (ADSL1, which I cannot get anymore). These are all ADSL2, netspace is $60 for 40gig, there next plan up is $90 for 160gig (farken heaps of gig that would go to waste). iiNet is $70 for 45gig.

So that's what im tossing up between.

Smicky he said it was due to them not having an infrustructure at the exchange.. Im with telstra by the way thanks to b-rad..

that's not uncommon either... Whirlpool I think will have the exchange's listed and ISP's with connection to each of those. I remember seeing it somewhere on there once... ill have a quick look and see if I can find the link for you!

Telstra lines - Perfect! You free to pretty much move around as you please!

Go nuts Bud, only thing now is to finally pick which one!

These two links might help!

unable to find the other link I was talking about at whirlpool... but this should give you some idea!

Yeah I know, choosing one is the hard part. Any ideas on Modems? Im gonna have to get one, so should I buy one off the ISP or buy myself one. Only have one PC to connect to.

only one PC then you can get away with just a ADSL modem. (assuming it is near to the pc/modem)...

All you will need to do once all setup and running (with the ISP) is 'basically' run a cat 5 cable from the rear of the modem (if it has a router feature built in), or a USB cable to the PC (depending on the ability of the PC and modem hardware) and your away!

I would recommend getting your own gear - that way its yours, and the ISP wont charge you anything for it... No contracts, and no payment plans for the hardware.

Recommend Linksys - as good gear!

All depends wether you no what you doing and what ISP you choose if your confident navigating around and setting up your own modem then by your own if your not a computer wiz and cannot do it yourself then ide by one off the ISP providing they provide support for there own modem
