I think to a certain extent what you say is true tmac, but remember out of around 300 million people in the US, a bit over 100 million people voted (if I remember the stats correctly) So its hard to say that 95% of the african american population voted him in because he's black should be re-phrased as "95% of the voting african american population"...

I think he got those votes because he was someone that people liked the look of. Yes he is half Kenyan, but he's not just "some brother from the hood", he is a guy that worked his way through higher education, had some real life experience and served in Chicago as a community planner. All these things made him out to be someone the general public could relate to - as opposed to John McCain, who yes, served time as a POW, but now has 11 houses and 13 high end cars - this could have given him a less personable appearance to Voters. Plus the Bush like stance on most things

Agreed, but my point was that being black is what likely got him over the line.

While he won by a large margin, many people poled in the US thought there was little difference between McCain and Obama. Him being black added a novelty factor for many voters, which swung their decision to his favour. In reality Hilary Clinton poled better than Obama early on so McCain would've struggled against any oponent (he probably had a better chance against Obama).

Fair point - and now after it all the Republicans are turning on Palin! Apparentyl she has spent close to $200,000 in clothes for herself and her family, plus hiring a stylist! Its reported that half of the alledged clothes have been "lost" lol....

I hope Obama makes it though, an assasination would only work against any white supremist groups and their "cause". The sad thing is that plots against him are not just conspiracy theory, ii'm sure it is a very real threat...

I think they were all pretty unfair to Palin fight from the start. For some reason she became the focus of everything. They said she was to young and inexperienced, but she's only 2 years younger than Obama! As far as her $200k goes, would that really be any different than the rest of them?

I'm sure the secret service will have Obama covered. If they take him out at night, they'll tell him not to smile.

Sorry, couldn't help it :Welcome2FordXR6t:

I think it was the fact that the Repub party said to Palin, here's some money, get yourself a stylist and some clothes - not go on a shopping spree at Saks 5th Avenue for all your family...

I try not to be racist, but I did chuckle at the night time joke... :tonguepoke:

Joe Biden, he was the "experienced support" that helped Obama get the more conservative vote within his own and opposite party supporters
