Hey all,

All is going well with the aquisition of my T, so I thought I'd ask some questions to allow me to plan for more mods. (It's 270rwkw and already I want more...)

Currently the car is running a 12psi custom APC tune. It also has a full stainless steel 3" Exhaust and a growler air intake.

I was considering taking it over 300 rwkw, but really thinking about it made me realise that it could cost insane dollars...

For example getting new injectors would mean I'd need new springs. Then I'd need a new IC, and another custom tune. Then I'd have get the brakes done, get strut braces and sway bars so I didn't roll over.... I'd also need a gearbox rebuild and strengthen - possibly a new box all together...I was also considering new rims, XR8 bonnet and a body kit....

I guess I need to find a happy medium where I get good performance but I don't have to fork out millions of dollars.

(I am concerned about the springs running 270rwkw though...so they will probably need changing.)

In all honesty I am going to leave the exterior aspects and I don't really want rebuild or replace the box. Is 270rwkw to 300rwkw a good figure that will be easily reachable but will not result in me having to change everything?

Any thoughts would be great...I've got the mod bug and I haven't even got it yet...

Also while I have you all here, what 1/4 mile time would an auto BA 270rwkw T run roughly?

with a hi flow cat the springs may be fine. I know dean went 300 with dump/cat/cooler/pump/injectors.

you may be able to get another 20 just from injectors and pump, but it will suffer in summer..

with good tyres I dont see why you wouldn't jag a mid to low 12. flukey got 12.55 with 255rwkw.

what model and tranny are you getting?

If you haven't already you should think about a trans cooler to extend the life of your auto whether you upgrade trans or not. Also you are probably not far away from the limit of your injectors and springs. Doing them will enable your tuner to take full advantage of your current and any future mods. I was in a similar situation and went from ~270 to 296kw @12psi in my BA manual. Having done the valve springs and injectors at least I know that part of the engine is relatively safe.

Correct. I just nudged over 300 with Nizpro squirters, walbro pump, wog cooler, SMB dump & cat with no major valve spring issues. Started getting a little valve float on cold starts if I gave it a bit but was fine after it warmed up

Once I changed them for Nizpro springs & had a retune the difference was very clear though. Much stronger in the upper rev range & no more float!

I was just wondering what you can do without having to do something else as well...

I was thinking springs, injectors and an intercooler. But then my box will die right...? And if it only gets me another 30rwkw, I don't really feel that's worth it considering how much this will all cost...

Maybe a trans cooler is a good way to go then...How much are they and are they worth it?

Oh and Btw It's a BA I with the 4spd...

Tranny coolers are roughly $400.

Im going to be upgrading my intercooler soon which should take me over the 300rwkw mark. Like yourself I have a BA 4speed, from what I've been told and reading on the forums if you have a good tuner your gearbox should be fine.

have a look at my mods in my sig. No valve springs yet. I would definitely suggest tranny cooler. When I took my car on the cruise on the weekend and after a few spirited laps around Bathurst I could feel the heat the tranny was giving thru the auto shift surround and on the tunnel wall in the footwell. Unbelievably hot. But so far my tranny has survived Bathurst cruise and about 2 months of abuse fingers crossed.

As for power, I actually couldnt tell the difference when I jumped between 270 to 296rwkw's ..maybe its just me.
