Hey All,

Just picked up my built 4 speed BTR built by Dave from RVO in Dandenong this arvo. Was excellent timing as I just lost 2nd and 4th on Sunday night. So far the auto feels awesome. Firm, positive and surprisingly quite. Can't wait to put some power through it later on.

I also fitted a TCI (Australia) torque converter. It was meant to have a stall of around 2500-2800 RPM. I rang the dude and talked to him about it before I purchased it. We discussed the weight of car, power and torque etc. I told him I'd be putting 450+rwkw through it eventually and he said the stall might increase by a couple of hundred RPM at most. I could live with that. Well, at 350 rwkw, the friggen thing is a little wild at 3700rpm off the line, and flashes to 4000+ in 3rd under hard throttle. Launches great, though the fuel economy has gotten a little worse for some strange reason...hehe.

The dude better be putting up the $250 it will cost to drop the trans again... Ill be calling him 2moz.

Cheers Bro.

Steph.

Why do you have to drop the trans again? Did I miss something?

It's just the standard BTR4 speed and shifter mate. I want to see if I can retain the factory look and functionality as far as possible. The converter would be great if it wasn't so loose. I mean it was meant to be 2500-2800 rpm buts it is running at more like 3500-3800rpm. that's a whopping diffrence. What's ylur stalling up at in real life?

Just to update, Len from Torque Converter Industries P/L (in N.S.W.) has come to the party with the converter issues. Finally, someone willing to back their product and do it right. The man didn't even flinch and instantly offered to replace the converter and pay for re-fitting. Top class service and attitude. Thanks Len.

BTW, I am getting flair to 4200rpm. Sounds like a massive 1 speed box. Just like those big converters on massively cammed N/A's. I reckon I could leave the line with 18psi! Yeah baby...

Ahh ok so it looks the same as it rolled out of the factory, that's good to know.

Also my stallie was ment to be a 2800- but I can get it up to 2900-3000.

So 2900-3000, is that right in the sweet spot and taking off well? What boost can you launch on Mick?

It looks like the bloke at TCI is old school in a good way. He's sending a new converter out and paying for it to be re-fitted too. Awesome. And we've come to an agreement where he'll even go a third one to get the stall right, all at his cost. I mentioned the forum and a possible group buy and he's willing to do a good price if there's enough interest. I've put up the info in the ideas for group buys thread. See how it pans out.

A torque converter group buy price for members would be good for a tested product. But since an exchange t/c is needed, it may be easier to negotiate a price but deal directly with the manufacturer. This is what ended up happening with the Argo Conrod group buy. If you mentioned the forum, you got the negotiated price.
