September 11, 200818 yr #1 After having my BF XR6 returned after five weeks at the panel beaters, I've found that my Mongoose security system is malfunctioning. I originally switched it off with the little key thingy so that it wouldn't be troublesome for the panel beater. But now that the car has returned, the alarm does not function properly (wails everytime I attempt to lock the doors). HOWEVER...I have noticed that the interior courtesy lights do not work either...If I assume that a missing or blown fuse is the cause for the interior lights not working...could this also be the cause for the alarm to malfunction. Where should I be directing my next line of enquiry do you think? Any advise from anyone with auto electrical knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
September 11, 200818 yr #2 Is the Mongoose an Upgrade I.e. Map80 or a stand alone system I.e. M60 or M80? if its an upgrade then by the sound of it the alarm might be out of sync with the car. Problem solved by unplugging alarm module, key out of ignition, door open, wait 30ish seconds for the car to power down (until power windows no longer work) then plug alarm module back in, close doors etc... and the alarm should work as normal.
September 11, 200818 yr #3 mate check all fuses under dash and bonnet thoughrly(spelling?) First.Do that then let me nomike
September 11, 200818 yr #4 Author It is a factory upgrade. If it is an out of sync problem....I would assume the shop that originally installed it could bring it back into sync as you describe....I'm hoping he knows exactly what you mean or what the problem is as soon as I mention it to him. Thanks for you reply!
September 11, 200818 yr #5 Author Oh yeah...and I'll check those fuses as soon as I get a chance. Just wanted to know whether no interior lights and the alarm sounding when trying to lock the doors had some association?
September 13, 200818 yr #7 Author **UPDATE**The alarm is all good now.An educated guess tells me that perhaps the XR's battery was disconnected for quite a time while it was in the panel shop (in fact before starting this post I did notice that the alarm siren sounded like it was winding down when I tried to activate it with the little key thingy...which made me think it may have something to do with no charge in the Mongooses' back-up battery). So anyways...after running the car for a couple of days...everything has come good.Suffice to say...the interior lights not coming on (I changed a blown fuse) had nothing to do with it in this particular case. Thanks for the feedback regarding this post. Hope this goes in future towards answering this problem for anyone else in a similar situation.
