Yep im sure Mal would explain it a little differently but I think that is the jist of it.

You learn something every day, if not its a waste

good work mate, the lash out for a t56 should be worth it in the longrun.

does the clutch "act" like a button clutch as in you cant really slip it for long, it just bites and jumps?

Hi trough lolly, no its not like that, not much different a feel than the standard clutch ( a touch heavier ). It has a weird groan/spring tensioning type noise down low in the revs( below 2000rpm) which I am told is quite the norm for this type of clutch, it was a bit off putting to start with but getting used to it the more Kay's I do. Its a bit hard to keep the revs above that all the time. It goes away if you just cruise through the gears but put the foot down and its back but as I said only till about 2000rpm.

Its the T56 that has surprised me a bit with the so called roll over noise at idle, this also was a bit concerning until I spoke to a couple of gearbox/clutch guys who told me that these boxes are renowned for this roll over noise, I still thought it was a bit excessive so I'm off to take the car to one of these guys in the next couple of days so they can actually hear the noise. But Mal wood informs me that it is quite normal( without actually hearing the noise ).

So yea apart from these couple of concerns I have this g-box/clutch setup works real well, haven't done a lot of Kay's yet (just to and from work) so I guess the box will free up a little more but it feels great and very positive gear selections.

I put 4 Lt's of oil in the box to start with and Mal said if I can pour another 500ml in, it will quieten the box a little more so ill also do that on the weekend.

Ill have more to add in the following days/weeks as the kays clock up.

:buttrock::censored: for now

nice, good to hear the clutch acts "standard" in a way... but I dont see how it should make a noise while moving under 2k, usually a bit of thrust bearing noise is all u get but once moving u cant hear it anyway.

Is the t56 one of mals blueprinted boxes? if so, dont mean to be rude Mal, but shouldnt blue printing and balancing parts eliminate dodgy roll-over noise? because at the end of the day roll over noise is just noise from dodgy parts that arent machined to 100% tolerances...

have u put Castrol Transmax Z oil in?? if not, give that a whirl.

Yep I agree totally, which is why im going to the experts soon. Yes its one of mals boxes and yes im using transmax.

The thrust bearing isn't contacting the pressure plate once the pedal is up so you shouldn't hear it.

I would expect to hear some roll over noise...

In neutral the input shaft is turning the counter shaft and that is turning the gears around the main shaft.

Correct me if im wrong but I thought that the thrust bearing was in contact with the pressure plate just slightly while the pedal is out and when you press the pedal down it moves further out to press against the fingers of the pressure plate.

I would expect also from all the info im getting to hear some roll over noise but I still think mine is excessive, any way ill soon know after the experts check it out.

There's no load though.

I've replaced plenty of noisey thrust bearings and they only make the noise when you put your foot on the clutch and load on the bearing is at it's highest.

Hi mate, just a bit of an update to my clutch/gearbox scenario.

I took my car to the mechanic( referred by Mal wood) so he could listen to the noises I am concerned about.

He suggested, without being certain, that it was the clutch that was making those noises. Not roll over noise ( too excessive for that ). So now I have to speak to my clutch supplier to find out what can be done about it. The only way I can prove or disprove what the problem is, is by removing the box and clutch and doing a full inspection and then maybe installing a different clutch. Not sure which way its going to pan out yet but one thing is for sure I'm not happy with this setup. !

I really want to get this sorted so I can do some driving, only done about 250K's since the box went in.

Not happy jan. :bowdown::hug:
