June 27, 200818 yr #1 Hi all. Was just wondering what Ford will do now that South Pacific Tyres (who supply Ford with all the tyres for the Falcon and Territory) are closing their Australian plant? Stay Aussie made by transferring to Bridgestone or take supplies from nearby overseas GoodYear/Dunlop factories in China/India etc. ? Of particular interest is that apparently the rubber used on the FG was developed around it - will this have an impact on how the car rides/handles once production stops in December?Cheers
June 27, 200818 yr #2 The news story I watched on this issue said it was 6 times cheaper to make tyres in India and China now, then here in AUS. What farking next will go.I.B.
June 27, 200818 yr #3 Can’t believe the limited amount of coverage this has got. Is the same amount of people losing their jobs as announced by both Ford and Expensive Daewoo but it obviously doesn’t “sell as many papers”.I’m actually surprised they’ve managed to hang in for as long as they did, doesn’t make it any easier to swallow, but still think they have done well.Free trade is going to be the death of this country. These idiots that are attempting (albeit poorly) to run this place need to wake up and smell the roses
June 27, 200818 yr #4 6 times cheaper to make tyres in India and China nowand I bet you the price will not reflect that change.
June 27, 200818 yr #5 I might have got one of the last sets of goodyear fi's made in aus then I was actually suprised to see the nade in aus on them when I got them
June 28, 200818 yr #6 that's some bad news for the workers, my dads been there for 30 yrs, theyll be closing at the end of the year and moving to china although I dnt think it will affect the car manufacturers because there are still 2 plants left in aus, brisbane and adelaide.cheers
June 28, 200818 yr #7 Well Victa went the other day.. Australia = grab a bargan...Wish we would stop selling out this country
June 28, 200818 yr #8 funny thing... I was ordering stuff from china & it's gone up 20% since last year because of their massive inflation + low $US.I give that bubble 15 years
