One thing that's interesting though is that some dude's been running low 11s and I don't think he's busted anything in the AWD system yet? He'd be running a lot more power than I would.I'll also have to check whether the guy who told me "280kw at the wheels" remembered it was AWD. It might be closer to 250rwkw on a safe tune with approx 40% drivetrain power loss with an AWD. I did emphasise I wanted a safe tune as I don't want a busted engine. Would a lower temp thermostat hep with heat soak? Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/46945-advice-on-mods/#findComment-697156 Share on other sites

Would a lower temp thermostat hep with heat soak? The TT has the exact same intercooler 'core' as the Falcon just the tanks are a different shape and the outlet to the throttle body is bigger. Once you turn up the wick the stock cooler really starts to struggle but it will be fine at that power (280awkw) for short bursts and everyday street use as will the cat, but if you plan on racing it than the bigger cooler will certainly help. Gets down to how fast you want to go and how much you really want to spend, and whether or not you ever want to flash it back to standard for servicing etc (once you fit the bigger injectors it won't run on the factory tune) I run a 180 degree thermostat which results in cooler running generally but it doesn’t help for very long at WOT. The thermostat will help keep engine temps down a bit but won’t make any difference to power as it’s the high inlet air temp that robs you of power. I don't worry too much about the diffs in mine as they share the torque, it’s around 60/40 split so that 'smaller' front diff only has to handle around 112kw or 250nm of torque which is well within its capacity. Its the transfer case (very small chain and gears, with only 500ml of oil) which is the weak link IMO and the input shaft in the transmission is also a bit sus in the terry as its has to handle all the torque all the time compared to the falcon which will break traction quite a bit at that power level thus relieving a lot of the strain from the power train. The significantly increased traction offered by the AWD system and the 2,200 kg is what’s gunna cause the problems. Keep the local tow truck number handy.Good luck. Granted it's only been about 3-4 months, but I give it plenty during it's daily driving duties. With a debung, phoon CAI and K&N, plus a CAPA flash + tune (just shy of 10psi), I managed 251kw at the wheels and a 13.5 @ 102mph. At this power level, the heat soak is barely noticeable, however I did drop 0.3 of a second when doing back to back runs at Calder. 13.5 was after a long cool down after a bloke lost a wheel & axle mid-track. I considered doing the cat and injectors for a few more kw, but decided against it for now. Last week I programmed in my 8psi tune and the power feels smoother and safer - much nicer for daily driving. If I was going to take the next step, it'd be a cat, injectors, plugs and front-mount cooler, but I'd be concerned that after spending another $3k, I'd be up for repairs at some stage, making the mods a great deal more exxy. If you have the coin (and don't have the mrs hanging over your shoulder) give it a crack - I certainly would.
