hey guys,

im just in the complicated process of choosing a clutch and ive been told the typhoon clutch is a very good clutch and can handle huge amounts of power.. but it is very pricey..

I rang an old friend of mine who is the manager for spare parts at nuford in perth. Asked him if he could hook me up with a 'under the counter' deal for a new typhoon clutch kit and he said he could. but he said there is no difference in the clutch, its just a different pressure plate or something?

even though hes in spare parts, I think he may not know about it and hes pulling it off the top of his head.. cause from wat ive heard the typhoon clutch is a twin plate?

any comments or thoughts would be appreciated!

he can get it for $2300.. I think they retail for around $3500-$4000 genuine from ford?

Yes the F6 is a twin plate, compared to a single plate T clutch.

The standard T clutch is very weak, it is designed to be the first thing to "go" in order to protect the other components (a bit like a fuse in an electrical circuit).

On the other hand the F6 clutch is very good, and is designed to handle lots of power.

They have a very light feel and the take up point is very high up the pedal throw and makes changing gears a pleasure.

I have around 390rwkw and a standard AP racing (F6) clutch is more than up to the task.

If it shows signs of slipping, cerametallic plates and a billet flywheel can always be installed and then it's bullet proof.

There's a few 500+rwkw cars going around with this setup.

$2300 sounds like a reasonable price. They are a quality unit.

What sort of power level are you aiming at Jeremy?

Hey GreenXR6T! Is it possible to buy the cerametalic plates for the AP clutch in Aus? I wouldn't imagine that Ford would sell them, that's all.

They're an awesome clutch. You can pull the clutch out (slowly) on a gradient and it won't stall lol

Yes definitely possible.

Xtreme (a site sponsor) in WA sell them. I think they're over $500+ each though.

This is all true , sometimes above 350rwkw you can get clutch slip, it all depends on the power delivery. But as Greenxrt6 says just add the ceramic plates to fix it. I dont know about being light my clutch is quite heavy. Arron
