A mate of mine's dad has always had an old XC Cobra Bathurst Edition since I've known him, about 14 years now. Being a Bathurst edition, it was always rare beng one of 30 ever made.

He purchased the car in the early 80's, as the cars second owner. The original owner had bought it in 1979 new from a Brisbane dealer, but traded it two years later on a brand new xD.

About 12 years it was decided to do a full bare metal restore with engine refresh, and so the saga began.

For quite a while it sat dormant, almost sold except the buyer fell through at the last minute, and the restore completed roughly 4 years ago. Has since been to numerous track days and car shows.

A couple of years ago, his wife was at a local shopping center where a lady approached her and asked did her husband have a Cobra. She replied yes, then finding out that the ladies husband was the original owner and had seen it on the road.

Long story short, the husbands met, to show the fella the car he had sold over 20 years earlier. He was then asked a question out of the blue, "did you get the letter in the glove box when you bought the car from the dealer?". He knew of no letter. He was then informed that the car was indeed the original pace car from the 1979 bathurst. turns out Ford brisbane (denmac I believe) de-stickerred the car. This was able to be vouched by the fact that the car on track way back then still had its victorian number plates, which this fello then happy handed over to him.

A letter was also obtained from Ford Australia confirming the above. There were infact three Cobra's (all Bathurst editions) that were stickered up as pace cars, 2 for media purposes, plus this one for the actual race. This can be see on the front cover on one of the wheels magazines from 79 or 80, which the previous owner also happily supplied a copy as he had a few. Original roof racks/sirens/lights were also sourced to make the car truly restored.

Anyway's here's recent pics. Some of you may have seen it at Power Cruise of the last year or so. Also featured on the latest powercruise DVD.
