Best Tyres For Xr6t On Stock Rims

I have pirelli pzero nero's and 290rwkws. I bought a set for $900 235/45 r17. I had two newish dunlop sp3000's on the rear before and the pirelli's are a decent step up. If you get the p zero nero's run 40psi in them, they will wear evenly and steer fantastic.

Slightly off topic but what tyre pressure do you guys recommend for the standard Dunlop SP3000s fitted on the 17" BF rims? is 38psi too little or too much?

The dunlops that come on the XR6T's are one of the most pathetic tyres available. They have very little dry or wet grip capabilities, and a large amount of tyre roar. Let's also not forget to mention the previous days of splitting, cracking and bubbleing Dunlops a large number of us had problems with.

Howsee, there isn't much available in the true performance range for a 17" wheel. I ended up buying all sorts of tyres till I settled on some Michelin Pilot Preceda 2's. The wet/dry grip capabilities of this tyre is absolutely brilliant, with great life and minimal noise @ ~$250 a corner you won't get a better tyre for your 17's. If you do want better you'll need to upgrade to 18's.

The only downside is that they don't take track punishment well, after 8 or so laps they heat up and loose a lot of their grip. They are fine after a cool down. Unless you drive the same on the road as on the track (and you'll be an idiot for doing so), you will not face this problem.

Is it the sp3000 you are talking about?

I have dunlop sport maxx, as fitted to the Fg's and find them to be a good road tire, plenty of grip wet or dry. Just need some thing wider at the back as its just to easy to spin them up.

I'm talking about all dunlop "performance" tyres.

The SP3000's are the worst of the lot, and the sport maxx are OK but no where near as good as similar priced alternatives.

Ah what they hell....someone's got to.

I've had the "rubbish" Dunlop SP3000 tyres for the last 4 1/2 years (3rd set now....135,000kms) and have managed to stay on the road during all that time.

Perhaps my mods aren't as high performance as others but I do have weather shields on both sides, bonnet protector and all round mudflaps so perhaps I have an unfair advantage over some of the other guys here.

thanks everyone for your input. after having looked at everything I'll either end up just getting a set of decent tyres for under a grand for the 17's or if I have the cash upgrade to a 18 or 19" rim and look at my options then. hope this has helped others as much as it has helped me.

I have the Marangoni Mythos on the 'phoon and I'm quite impressed by the performance and grip they offer, but more importantly they are a lot quieter than the Dunlop Sport Maxx, which I had no complaints with except for the noise.

I got 30,000km out of the Dunlops and if I get the same wear out of the Maragonis I'll be happy.

I paid $280 per corner for the 19's from JaxQuickfit so 17's should be a heap cheaper if they're available in your size.

yeah the problem at the moment seems to be finding them to fit the stock 17's, I am looking at possibly replacing the current mags with 19's, but I would want to wait til around july, and I don't think my current tyres will last that long....

I think I'll have to sit on it for a while and see how my potenza's go in the meantime....

Ended up recently going Falken FK452's in the 17" ( yeah - I like a bit of tyre....) 235/45. After 5000k's - very , very impressive in the wet, dry is good, braking excellent, and noise way down on standard Dunnies. In fact - these have shown just how dreadful the standard provision rubber actually is. It's WOEful. At @$230 a corner and 300 hardness rating, you can get a dam fine deal out of these. Was trying to source Marangoni's - gave up.

I was under the impression that the 452's didn't come in a 17 fitment....

where did you get them from, and what sort of power are you pushing atm, cause I know of the 452's and they've got a good wrap from ppl, but they don't last long from what I've heard????

any info would be awesome.
