The bung is blocking one of the 2.5" pipes completley.Removing it makes the car have a nice growl.I doubt the old muffler is worth much as not many people want a stock muffler. Not offensive, but a little bit louder and meaner. Not sure I can feel any extra power, but I haven't had the car for long, so I'm not used to it yet. That'll all change after the intake mods and flash tune this weekend. Bring it on! Maybe the F6X gets 270kw by the removal of this bung Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/44085-de-bunging-diagram/page/2/#findComment-654088 Share on other sites

The bloke that did it said it was super-easy (hence only being $50) and I'd recommend it to anyone - if only for the improved exhaust note. I reckon the F6X is the exact same running gear as the phoon, which I believe has the bung also (please correct me if I'm wrong). If I'm correct, that bung is nothing more than a de-tuning tool, which confuses me no end. Why not just have a single pipe, instead of 2 with 1 blocked. Is the V8 exhaust the same, but without the bung, perhaps? It is louder (was loud prior to bung removal also) than any other stock car I've ever driven. When you stick the boot in, it gives plenty of cabin noise. Was the bung added to the BF MKII update model? & does ford do this mod at the factory meaning if you have the muffler ordered in on its own will it be bunged also? Did you buy yours brand new, or second hand? It's a simple cut and weld type jobbie, so any decent exhaust shop would be able to do it without making too much mess (making it hard to differentiate between factory welds and the new weld). If it's a second hand car, the previous owner might have already had it done.I could definitely be wrong, but if the exhaust is the same for all models, I can't imagine why they'd bung some but not others. We were talking about it at work today and everyone has their own opinion. I'd love to be able to say for sure and would be happy to follow up with a loud "ZAP TOLD ME!"
