Bottom End Noise

hay just recently my car has a noise coming from underneath the car its kinda a ringy or a squeaky noise or maybe even a tapping noise kinda hard to explain but its fairly easy to hear. my car is running 264rwkw its a 03 ba ute. any ideas thanks

if it sounds tinny it could be the heatshield on the exhaust rattling, it was a common problem that can be fixed by tightening some hose clamps around the heatshields

hey mate I removed the heat shield long before I heard this noise so it cant be that thanks anyway

what about the one around the cat, put your foot on it at idle.... if it shuts up then...chop it !

as for the bottom end noise mine too .. my brother in-laws as well.. it goes away after a 1 min idle

hey mines kinda there all the time if you have the window down when driving u can kinda hear the noise and its definitly not heat shields

im Smarttys bro in law, mines a 04 with 57,000k on the clock. MIne knocks.....now.........and even after warm up..... Piston slap????

57,000k on the clock, I would be F%%$ annoyed if it was.... "its like a splinter in my mind!" always there, only when idling.

any one help?

many many of the falcons ive heard including my own have all had this funny knocking type noise from the bottom end.

I first thought its one of the idlers and that but im yet to really have a good look see at it.

anyone had the noise and its mysteriously dissapered just as it appeared in the first place?

Being too hard on the old donks I reckon haha.

Yeah my cousins BA MKII does it and my new F6 bottom end does it too. All the time. Sounds like oil slapping round. "Plop plop cluck"

Is there an oil worth looking at to reduce engine noise with 300+ rwkw?

I have a horribly noisy engine on cold start, so much so I cant hear much else so I baby it for the forst 20kms or so.

There's not a lot you can do for an engine that makes a bit more noise when cold. It's the way engines are designed.

Pistons aren't perfectly round when cold. This is to compensate for the different rates in expansion of the piston due to the difference in material thickness around the gudgeon pins as it heats up.
